I am a fan but I have never seen anything like this send off. Six and a half hour funeral. I hope they have intermission and serve some snacks. Changing her clothes every day is creepy to me. I have always seen deceased in a coffin from waist up and seeing her feet in those red heels was so strange to me. I think they said there would be 100 or more pink vehicles. I wonder if they had them painted for the occasion. Unbelievable. I would like to think she can see all this that they are doing for her but if that is so then those who have no one to do for them would see that to... I just hope the ones doing all this showed her that much love when she was alive.

I just saw a picture of the 1940 Cadillac LaSalle hearse. It will be carrying Aretha Franklin's casket. It looks like a work of art.
Aubegirl, You are right - Wow what a send off.

I've found the entire thing over the top and some self absorbed attention getting.
I'm assuming she planned/authorized all this to happen. It's like one big last grab at the spotlight and really screams tacky, in my opinion.

@Mominohio: I know you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't think it's fair to speculate. None of us know anything for sure.

Good heavens ,look at the hoopla when Elvis died. They aren't hurting anyone. These stars are larger than life, and have given many people hours of pleasure. SHe is the only superstar famous person, who never turned her back on Detroit, naturally her fans love her, for this, as well as her talent
I think this is planned, so her fans feel like they are part of her services. I am not the type to be a fan of anyone. This doesn't make me feel other people shouldn't be able to express their condolences.
Fans are taxpayers too. This is a true story. One of my friends and her husband were huge Elvis fans. When they got a new car they drove to his home , and parked outside standing at the fence ,surrounding his property, among heaps of other people. After standing there a while, they were allowed to move closer to his house, but still behind a fence
While there were standing there ,they met the president of his fan club, and she invited them back to her apartment. They visited with her for a bit, and exchanged phone numbers. When Elvis suddenly died, this woman called my friend asking, her to join her for the funeral. She was calling 1 person in each state, to form a group to express condolences. This is at a time when long distance was very expensive , you paid for every call. My friend declined, and the woman burst into tears saying she had nothing to live for, now that he was dead
People are dancing to Aretha's music, on some of the streets, in Motown today, with the OK from the police. They want things to be orderly.
It is a once in a lifetime event. How people bury their loved one is their call, not mine. No one is forced to watch or attend
RIP Aretha

Just tuned in to it and the choir is singing so beautifully....I think many here in Michigan/Detroit loved her....it doesn't bother me at all to see the huge out pouring for her.

Loving it! I didn't know Faith Hilll could belt out gospel! The people are on their feet, moving and singing. Perfect tribute to the Queen of Soul.

I think it's cultural. We should try our best not to assign negatives to traditions we, as caucasians, are not used to being part of.
