I feel it is safer to post a picture on a little QVC bb than it is to walk down the street. With a cell phone we all can fall victim to our pictures being taken anywhere and everywhere. That picture can then be photoshopped onto all kinds of lewd and crude (pornographic) sites.
Some of the comments here remind me of a convo I had with an older colleague who would not prepare his own tax returns online for fear of the big bad cyberspace. Ah, hello, how did he think his expensive tax preparer computes his taxes--with pencil, paper and a calculator? Geesh!
Note to self: Don't leave home without first doing hair and makeup.😱

@San Antonio Gal You have beautiful eyelashes you posted the other day while in the car.

For that reason alone, I'd would never and have never posted photos of children. Nor have I posted pictures of myself or anyone I know anywhere, including social media. I have an account on FB but it is a superficial account, only so I can follow what's going on in my community, no personal pictures or info.....
@Q4u Your post made me think about the number of people I see on the beach with young children running around naked. It used to be considered cute and freeing. I always think, who is out there with a camera taking pics and posting them on who knows what or where. It is a different world. JMHO about that....not really the topic of this thread.

if i post a photo of myself here, and you don't know
1. what state i live in,
2. if the photo is recent or a old one.
how am i being put at risk? can someone give me a clue as to the terrible things that i am at risk for?
Ill give you a reason----catfishers and scammers from other countries scan all forms of social media, to find photos of people that they can pretend to be. This scam has been featured on news stories alerting folks about privacy and security online and even Dr. Phil has done some shows on catfishing and notified the real people that others were using their photos....and these people were SHOCKED to find this out..........
And what if this was a U.S. fraudster. and you were also indicted since it was your photo that was used in the scam. And then you'd have to prove you didnt have a clue about it....I wouldnt want to be involved in that type of investigation and problem.....

I just wanted to know and personally I am not comfortable. I do post to Facebook and I guess there is no real privacy there. But in most cases someone from one of our square dance club(s) posts group pictures. Hard to get away from it.

However, I find no reason to post my photo in a medium such as facebook. My friends and family know how to reach me, and others .... well, I don't care to be contacted.
I had a very bad experience with a stalker about 20 years ago, and I am instinctively over protective these days. Once you put something out on the internet ..... anywhere on the internet ..... you have given up control of that information. NOT good thing, IMO.
You bring up a good point -----some employers or charitable organizations require you to post your photo on Facebook. I volunteer for a non-profit and this was an area of contention for many of us.....and they finally relented and for safety and privacy decided against the photos....
I wonder about people like Realtors .....they have a Realtor Showcase TV Program here and they present homes for sale and then show the realtor's photo and time for the open house.....I would be concerned if I was alone in that house because in this day and age you never know what type of people are out there.....

I don't think it's that kind of forum. People jump in and jump out of the board. It's not like Facebook where you can determine levels of privacy and control who you accept as 'friends.' We're going to a security forum next week sponsored by financial manager firm. It's cyber security for people in or nearing retirement. I imagine I'll find out I'm doing af few things wrong.

There are at least 3 posters that I know of that I can tell you which state they live in and very close to what city. With pictures... Actually 4 now that I think about it.

No. It is not a good idea. Privacy is the main thing here. IMHO

I see no issue with posting my picture. I am not a celebrity, therefore I can't imagine how this violates my privacy. I am also not vain, heavens I just turned 70, so who cares what the old lady looks like! LOl
