I'm a "neither"-ist. A glass is neither half full or half empty, it's half.
If it's a little over half, it's closer to full. A little under half, it's closer to empty.
Better to have the glass more full with salty snacks. Less full just before bedtime.
I just roll with it.....![]()

Neither one, I'm a realist. I go by what I can see and what is known.
Evidence and data.

I'm neither. I'm certainly not an optimist, but neither am I a pessimist. I believe in examining a situation from all sides and attempting to be prepared for any and all outcomes. I have always felt that repeating a "it'll all always be fine", "look on the bright side" mantra was pointless. It MAY indeed be fine, but if it's not you've got some major adjusting to cope with after refusing to even acknowledge it might not be fine. I don't *expect* disaster, but I refuse to ignore the possibility.
My mother used to call me a pessimist; I used to call her Pollyanna. She said she was happier beiing Pollyanna. I could never be faux-upbeat in every situation. I'm a realist.
Of course, I'm speaking of life in general, all the years I've lived it, not the recent events that some assumed this question was asked about; I took it at face value.

I say that I'm a optimist not because I don't see what's going on around me or know what's going on in the world but do know at some point it's best to make lemonade out of the lemons that have been tossed my way. I do know that cowering in fear and thinking the worst is not going to get us anywhere either.

I am a natural optimist, but I am really struggling right now with worries over elderly parents and the news. My blood pressure shot up a couple of months ago and wasn't going down, so I am on extra bp meds. And I have just started using an albeit silly coloring book to focus my mind on the moment. Just visually drinking in the vibrant yellow, fuchsia and more is calming.

Oh its hysterical to read how many "optimists" we have here! Most of the topics and posts on this board sure speaks to the contrary! Lol! ![]()

Definitely an optimist. It doesn't mean that everything is always fine and dandy and that I don't recognize that worse case scenarios are present or exist- it's just finding a bright spot and not being a poor me the sky is falling type of person. My sister, raised in the same way as I was, took every negative and held onto it and is a miserable unhappy person who criticizes everyone and everything and sees life as unfair to her!! I refused to give in to any negativity that existed, always looked for positive, and have risen above it and had a great life.
