In the past I have stood up to people I see abusing others or animals -

In today's climate I would not get involved, but call local police.

Where we live, I would be afraid of lawsuits - try and help and you may be on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

I like to think I would but what I do know if it was a child or an animal being attacked there is no doubt in my mind I would jump in. No doubts.

There are so many sick people in our world I would have to assess the situation. If it were a dog or child, I would speak up and call 911. You just never know if the person is carrying a weapon. Cruelty and hateful people have become so prevalent in our society.

It would depend on the circumstances. If it would put my own life in jeopardy, no. But would I whip out my cellphone and call 911, yes. The world is so crazy now. You never know who may be carrying a gun.

Back in the mid 1980's I was robbed at gunpoint at the store I was working at. The guy was caught after I identified him from a photo line up. I think about that every now and then, and I feel pretty sure if that would have happened in this day and age, he probably would have shot me.

So yes, I would do everything I could to help, short of putting my own life in danger.

@NEvans2 my heart goes out to you.

I've had a gun held to my head twice. The first time was in a 7/11 when I was a teenager. We had to all get down on the floor as  the gunman waved the gun around and pointed it at us. I remember feeling horrible for the employee who said he couldn't open the safe. The gunman seemed high but did leave to everyone's relief.

The second time was after I'd gotten in my car after going to an ATM about 14 years ago. It was summer and after getting the money out, started the engine, window down. I heard a click and a young kid had a gun in the window pointing at my head. What did I do?? One of the stupidest things I could have. Put the car in drive and gunned it. All I can say was that I had a rush of adrenaline. And anger. He was shocked and ran back to the getaway car. Someone in the liquor store saw the whole thing and called the police who were there in about two minutes.

I agree and understand that had either of these happened today, I wouldn't have made it. Heaven forbid it ever happens again, they can take anything they want.

I am glad that you ended up safe. God bless.

There are states and professions in which it's a crime to not report certain crimes that they witness or were told about.
