Re: Are pesticides sprayed on produce sold at farmer's markets?

Why not ask the people selling the items about how they run their farms? Isn't that the appeal of the famer's market - that you're buying fresh produce direct from the people who grow it? Who's going to know better than they are how their products are grown?

Good answer since I'm sure they are not all doing it the same way. That's how I found out that you have to watch grass fed beef. I guess they can label it as such even when they finish it on gmo-grain that people eating organic are trying to stay away from.

Re: Are pesticides sprayed on produce sold at farmer's markets?

Here's the thing though. How does one know that the ground is 100% pesticide free?

Meaning, 10 - 20 years ago, Farmer "A", tills his land and plants his crops and uses  insecticide on his crops.

Today, Farmer "B" decided to use that same exact soil to grow his crops, only he never, ever uses any incecticide on his plants. He is 100% organic.

Now, how does one know that the insecticide that was used years ago still isn't sitting in the same exact soil that the organic farmer is using, and won't leach in to his food?

For that matter, for those who grow their own food, how do you know that years before you bought your property, that chemicals wern't used, and aren't still stitting in the soil, all these years later, and leaching in to your food, even though you yourself never, ever use chemicals on your food?

Yes, a real road scholar.  Haven't you read about all these talking points all along when it comes to matters of "organic and organically grown"?  This has been in debate since its' inception in the food industry.  No revelation here.

@truffle

Melissa's produce, Earthbound Farms, Bunny luv, and other organic corporations have valuable information on their sites.

The state or county extension office in the state you live in, may be helpful.

When we lived in Minnesota they had a free publication named Minnesota Grown that explained how and where everything was grown. The farmers paid to have their products in the publication.

The Chamber of Commerce may be able to help you with whom to contact also.

If I can come up with other resources I will let you know.

The pesticides don't stay in the soil, rain, melting snow wash them into streams and rivers. Then municipalities that get their drinking water from rivers, reservoirs send them to their residents in the water.

[ Edited ]

We use no pesticides on our property. We have lived here thirty years and it has been chemical free all that time.

For produce that we don't grow we go to the farmer's market every week. Some vendors have signs that say "We grow what we sell" some say "not sprayed" and others say and have their licenses showing that they are Organic. Some even say non Gmo. We only buy from the ones we know and who are certified Organic.

----Lets try not to be so nit picky and insulting to one another.
