Every morning they look out the window after they have been fed and look out at the park and bark at the dogs they feel are intruding on their space. Their barks are not loud and not frequent but they do so want to protect me. I bought an upholstered bench that they can sit on so they will be more comfortable while protecting me. My daughter thinks I am nuts.

My dogs are not over weight.

I see nothing unusual-
We rearranged the living room sofa set so that they couldn't perch on the back of it to look out the large window. Why? Concern that they would fall off. Now they can easily sit/stand on the floor and look when I let them in there. The windows are low to the ground. They love making sure there is nothing in their "aura" to be concerned about. A leaf, a car, people across the street daring to leave through their front door.......

No, you are not nuts....just someone who loves their pets.
The idea of the bench is just sweet...

Are your dogs spoiled? YES. Are you nuts? NO

If you think they are protecting you, then the answer is yes. There are reasons dogs do things but it is almost never what the owner thinks.
They are barking because they see dogs running. That's about it.

Your daughter is really intuitive.

Spoiled? Sure just like my Milo! He sits on the back of the sofa by the window and lets everyone know it is HIS street! Even the neighbors across are not allowed in their own driveway. Sometimes he straddles it like he's riding a horse. We always laugh when he does that. PS Milo is a small dog schnoodle around 20 lbs.

Not dogs, but cats in my place.
I purchased some beautiful wooden bookshelves, and purposely got a unit that fits under the window, and got a custom made cushion so my kitties could sit there and look outside. They rarely do.
I also got a full screen/window storm door so I could keep the front door open during good weather and they could sit in the sun. They do do this.
And, yes, they are spoiled, but I love them to death.
