My daughter is the contractor for her brother-in-law's and sister-in-laws new build. And that just got me to wondering about a housewarming party. I haven't been invited to one in decades. Maybe everybody I know is already settled in a house. That would make sense I guess. When is the last time you've been to a housewarming party?

I haven't been to one in a while, but DD goes to them all of the time. If it's a friend of hers I know well I usually send a gift. Most have been friends only - no older family members! ![]()

Can't recall ever attending a houseworming party. We didn't throw a party when we moved into our home.

I have brought a gift when I am invited to see someone's new home or apartment but I don't think I ever attended an actual party.

I do buy houses warming gifts for people but haven't attended an actual party since 1990.

No. I think the world would be blessed to do away with a gift buying date now. We are asked for gift after gift for so many events--and so many new made-up occasions are on calendars now.
Maybe a national holiday to celebrate "one less gift to buy?" ![]()

People still have housewarming parties but I think they aren't as prevalent as they were in decades past because people tend to have everything they need when they move into or build a home. We went to housewarming this time last year and it felt a little strange. They got married after living together for ten years. So there was the shower gift and the w didn't gift. Then three years later after buying a new home, they had the housewarming. Good friends and I love them dearly but I really felt it was a gift grab. Before that I hadn't been to one in years.

I've only been to a few housewarming parties, with the last one being the one I threw myself when I first moved into my condo many years ago.
As a single woman in her late 20's whose starter furnishings were of the "early dead relatives" variety and college leftovers (I'm still using those Corelle dishes!), I happily accepted whatever folks were graciously willing to give me, although I made it clear when inviting people that I didn't expect gifts. I just wanted to show off my new place.
