Yes! I'm a fan of classical. I played classical guitar for decades, starting when I was 11ish. My favorite is Spanish classical. But like you, I enjoy most all genres except acid rock and bluegrass. Two of my favorite operas are Phantom of the Opera (I've seen it twice) and Les Miz (I've seen it 3x). Saw Phantom in Dallas and Las Vegas and Les Miz in NY and Dallas. Saw Cats in London.
@monicakm Yes! Seville and Recuerdos de la Alhambra and Seville are tops. We were fortunate to hear a guy who had just won the competition at Santiago de Compostela way back in the 1970's and his prize was a trip to the Ramirez guitar factory to pick out a guitar. Can you imagine?????
I never heard anyone as skilled and perfect--but then he was just off competition so I guess that explains! I think he went on to teach because public performance was I think too stressful.

It's a toss up between Classical (1750-1820) and Baroque (1600-1750). It's from all those piano lessons from decades ago. And me, too, having lived (and liked) the rock & roll craze.
This is what I teach today. Dates are always on the tests.
@Harpa I have small hands, so I'm more on the Baroque side on playing.
I so wanted large hands! One of the biggest thrills of my entire life was getting to see Van Cliburn, who came to play at the University of Oklahoma to open a new music center!
That was more exciting to me than if I had gotten to see the Beatles (and up there with seeing the Stones!). And I have never seen anyone with longer fingers.
But it was the most amazing thing to actually hear him play. Never ever in my life would I have imagined that. I could cry thinking about it, and there were many misty eyes in people as we left.

That's endearing about your country husband
I learned my love for classical when I was around 10. My parents had friends in N. Dallas that had a fancy home and two Mercedes in the garage. I would sit in their cars and listen to classical music. If I went to bed while there, I would listen to classical music on the intercom system
@monicakm Where I come from there were few people listening to classical music and few resources to listen to it.
One of the biggest blessings of my life was my piano teacher and the access she gave me to the world of classical music I might never have had otherwise. I am so thankful for her influence on my life!

My parents both played piano and I had piano lessons, but declined to practice. I had violin lessons too and didn't practice that either.

@occasionalrain I love to practice and I guess was obsessed with trying to play as fast and perfectly as I could the scales and exercises.
My Siamese cat sat on top of the piano and when he was bored knocked my music off with his tail! When I went to college he would walk up and down the keyboard a lot--especially at night my parents said.

I've always had Siamese cats, still do. I received my first one from my father for my birthday.

Aww, It was a God thing 😁 and aren't you the one that said your son plays classical piano? That influence had to come from you.
When my daughter was five or six, we were watching Mr Rogers. There was a 6 year old boy playing a classical piece on the piano. My daughter stood up and said I can do that. She walked over to the piano and began to play the melody. I don't remember if she ever used both hands or not. Signed her up for piano lessons the next day. She went on to perform in public venues like the mall and other places as well as rest home churches. She participated in hundreds of competitions. Almost always coming home with a blue ribbon. I think I mentioned it above but she was granted a full music scholarship to UT Tyler. Went one semester and quit. My granddaughter has been taking piano from the same teacher for at least 10 years. She doesn't possess the ingrained talent as her mother but she's very good. Both my daughter and granddaughter were/are also in their school band. My granddaughter started out playing the flute like her mother but has changed to percussion. She is now lead over that section. Okay I'm finished bragging now 🥰

I can' t listen to it in my car, though. It makes me drive too fast. I get so lost in the music.
My son plays classical guitar...like that too.
@Carmie I love that music too! Have you seen the old old movie The Four Seasons? Alan Alda and Carol Burnett and others. It is one of my all-time favorite movies!
Husband plays classical guitar but his forte is electric and he was in a rock and roll band with professional musicians. Not as good as the lead, but he can sing and kept up with the guitar playing! It really was a stretch sometimes though, but good for him!
@Sooner I did play a reed instrument and French horn. Also took several years of piano. Nowhere near a classical piano student, just enough to keep my mother paying for the lessons and keeping her happy that I could play. She was an excellent musician and pianist, very talented. Suppose that's where my kids got the talent. Certainly not from me. The child who played trombone also plays classical and electric guitar.
