I can't speak for others but two of my grandsons are very lazy and one is extremely ambitious, hardworking, has great manners and a community spirit.  Different mothers.  Fathers were raised in a household where they had work ethic instilled and service to others and the community.  The two who are lazy have not been taught by their mothers who, too, are lazy.  They grew up in indulged households where they did not have to work and neither did their mothers.  The one grandson's mother worked hard to put herself through college. She also helped out at home and with her grandmother because her own mother worked.   My daughter has no children so can't judge from that.
