Are Black Friday, Cyber Monday Deals Real?

Consumer watchdogs and USA Today are reporting that for about 1/3 of the Black Friday deals, retailers raise the price some days ahead of time, so that they can them claim deep discounts on what are in reality measly discounts.  I saw this lady on TV (maybe a tik toker) saying she had put a bunch of ittems on her shopping cart ahead of time to shop on Black Friday, and the total price on Black Friday was higher.  I also monitor the prices on my anticipated big purchases and shop around on the internet.  I find the regular prices among many websites really vary, the sale prices end up about the same.  🤔

The report stated Target was particularly bad using a lot of fake regular prices to make their sale prices look good.

QVC does this too, eliminating discounts ahead of free shipping days, so that sometimes the cost to the customer is higher.  No thanks.

I have noticed that many Black Friday prices are still around, or only changed by a dollar or 2.

I have noticed most retailers I shop at all had  30% discounts. Why did they all have 30%? Usually you see 20- 25%. I think along your lines re: Black Friday Deals.

I bought about 6 items yesterday on Amazon.  I compared the prices today to what I paid yesterday and they've return to regular pricing, as much as 50% higher today.

People claim QVC  raises prices before free shipping butt I've never seen such evidence.  I have a wish list that has prices and I've never seen one change right before a special event.

I agree, @Kachina624, the only time I've had a price increase on a free shipping day was because an item in my Wish List was no longer a Lunchtime Special. Other than that, I've lucked out with several having dropped in price.

I knew my prices before Black Friday approached. I had been watching a few things at a few different places.

When I saw a good price on the things I wanted days before Black Friday I made the purchase.

Re: Are Black Friday, Cyber Monday Deals Real?

There are a couple items I've been watching on Amazon. Last week they were at "Black Friday Deal" prices for Amazon Prime subscribers that were purportedly $4-$5 lower than the regular prices. The prices went up after Black Friday. Today the prices were lowered again to what they were offered for on Black Friday but for non-Prime customers.

I think Black Friday pricing is usually a scam.

I got some good deals on cleaning and skincare products, an Apple IPad, and a few silly things (but very useful) like a collapsable stool that folds to a little round thing.

And I saw today that some are back way up in price--like the set of 5 Makeup Eraser cleaning cloths.

Re: Are Black Friday, Cyber Monday Deals Real?

Strange question.  Yes, there were some absolutely fantastic Cyber Monday and Black Friday deals.  I took advantage of some myself and with free shipping, it was like they were giving stuff away.  I did shop with the retailers I always shop with.  I never shop with unknown retailers.  I know what I'm buying with my money.  I don't believe Target takes advantage of customers in the way you are suggesting.  I see nothing wrong with QVC eliminating discounts on free shipping days but it's wrong and unfair to suggest they do that with everything.  It's up to the CUSTOMER to decide if something is a good value or not.

I don't think I've noticed a change in price.

@Kachina624  and. @Etoile308  - I have a wish list too. I used to be able to make notes on it, so I could know if the price has changed. Can you still make notes on your wishlists? Or do you keep notes on paper?

@beach-mom.  I don't think you can take notes.  My list is not that long and I have the prices burned in my brain.  I check them several times a week to see if there have been price changes.
