Boy, do I hate Windows 8 and this laptop!!!! Just lost a nice post to who knows where and who knows why. The cursor on this thing just jumps all over the place at times, if you stop typing for a second or so. I don't know what happened this time, but I ended up back in the forum with all the thread titles. Another thing this laptop does is run my words together even though I leave a space between them. OK got that off my chest!!!
Hi Birding Friends, We are having a 'thundery' afternoon, but so far, no rain. We did get some rain last evening and I was kind of worried that a heavy rain might beat down the little peppers I had put into peat pots about a week or so ago. Saturday, my son got rolling planter boxes and put potting soil in them, so I put the little peppers intothe big planters, and they are now out in the 'open', not sheltered by their parent plants. The parent plants are already setting on habaneros(Carribean Red) and jalapenos. Should have plenty of peppers this summer. I'll probably chop up most and freeze them for DS to use in his cooking.
Birdmama, I love Meadowlarks and we used to hear them daily, but now, none. They moved away as the houses sprouted on the lands that were once their homes. The last time I heard a meadowlark song was about 2 or 3 years ago over in IL at a party that was held near a rural area. Beautiful bird and a glorious call.
I was hesitant to use my Smartphone for banking and bill playing for a while, but finally jumped in and love the convenience. I can transfer funds, deposit checks, etc. I used to have to go to the bank at least once a month to deposit a check. I have not been to the bank for that in at least 18 months. I do it by phone photos. So easy. My grandsons do it too. Sometimes I trust the phone more than the computers.
I haven't gotten that good here at the Q site though. I have the Samsung Note 4 which has a big screen, but haven't posted on the forums. I can do Pinterest, but not post graphics or photos. I guess there's a way, but I haven't found it. I really haven't tried all that much though.
I don't know if I mentioned that the Barred Owl nest in Indiana has 2 views of the nest box. The interior is on Mama Owl and her 2 eggs, and the outside camera shows the exterior of the box and the limbs and branches around it, where Papa Owl sits often. The exterior is not visible at night, no infrared camera outside the box.
Winifred, Good news about your church and new pastor. I am glad for you as it sure makes a difference when attending services. The church here has several priests and not all of them are good at giving the sermons. The one we had last night is great and makes it a good experience and you don't forget what he has said as easily as one who drones on and on and doesn't tie things together. I guess that sounds crass, as that's not the only reason to go to Mass/Church, I know, but you do want to feel good about what was said.
When I get home, fried squash and many other vegetables will be on the menu. DS isn't into a whole lot of veggies, but I love them. When DDIL and I cook, we eat lots of salads and veggies.
Mousie, I hope that Poison Oak is healed up by now. I avoid Poison Ivy like the plague. I get rid of it as much as possible, but now and then the birds will have planted somewhere I don't expect it and I get hit with the awful i**tc* h and weeping rash. I use Fels Naphtha soap. I used to use Mom's homemade laundry soap, but we ran out of it and I don't know howto make it. I guess there are recipes for it, probably on Yankee's web site. I usually use milk soaps for my skin. It seems like every spring we have a new crop of Poison Ivy.
Puddles, I hope you get some nice Spring weather when you return to Great Britain. I'd love to be able to walk along the seacoast as you and Ian do. Amazing beauty and calmness in hearing the waves rushing in and then the whispers as they head back to the sea. When Charlie and I would stay in the different parts of Florida, the sounds of the ocean are so different. In the Keys, the rise and fall of the tides was not really noticeable, soundwise, and the waves sound so different from the waves that crash into the shore at Palm Beach and they roar in Daytona Beach. Loved all the sounds. On the Gulf side of Florida, the waves are 'tamer' than on the Atlantic side. It's just something I notice, not sure everyone hears it the way I do. Don't know how I ended up on that tangent.
Waving to all my Birding Friends, Anika, Loves, Stepping Stone, and Everyone. Need to get ready to take GS to piano lessons.
Have a lovely rest of your afternoon and evening.

Hi everyone!
Bird mama - I am healing. The hot water treatment really helped with a quicker healing process than ever before. My face is healed, a complete peel, now so soft, lol, what a way to get one! I still have itchy areas from the poison oak, but better every day. On Sunday, we were gardening and something got me, because I have been itching on my neck and lower face with a few tiny bumps here and there. I think this is due to the thistle weeds, but it's driving me nuts!
We planted two Hydrangeas, two roses, and dug up a rose, dug up some Salvias to be divided and replanted in the Fall, and one rose on a hill that was planted over fifteen years ago, but hasn't been looking good, poor soil and not enough water, I think, so it is in a pot now in my plant nursery, and this took most of the day, believe it or not.
I have been spending most days in the garden, repotting plants that have arrived from ordering on line, many different colors of Coreopsis, many types of Rudbeckia, some t grow to 7', For-get-me-nots, Shasta daisies, milkweed for the butterfly larva, found some in pale pink, and on and on, all perennials, don't plant annuals, hardy Asters, love them, and many hostas for my shade garden to be, until they can be planted in the ground. I like plants to be of a good size before planting due to the soil, which we do improve, but it isn't nearly as good as when we had a chipper and rabbit pooies, and they have to go in a wire basket, so want them strong enough to survive everything. Many of the plants are butterfly oriented, and the dried heads for the birds, so I am expecting a lot of action from the this year. I saw a Yellowtail Butterfly on Sunday and that was a thrill as I havn't see many butterflies in recent years.
I am very impressed with the online plants, all arriving in pots and a good size, looking very healthy, and not only less expensive than the garden centers, but everything I ordered, I never see there, so only get shrubs and trees.
I ordered Historic Irises for my cottage garden which is outside of the kitchen, but many of the perennials will go in my blue/pink/purple garden at the other end. Also ordered some dwarf and tall bearded Irises, these will arrive in July, so will have to wait a year until they bloom. I ordered four Lavender shrubs, and two reblooming from Cottage farms, don't have any reblooming, but will have to wait until next year to see them, and maybe not until the year after.
On Sunday about 5:00 as I was getting ready to come in, I was on my way to the faucet to turn it off, and there was a baby or very small bunny very near to the faucet and it just kept nibbling on a weed. I didn't want to startle it, so I began talking very softly to it and finally, it hopped slowly into the bush.
Earlier in the week, in another area, I heard a crash, and looked up to see a larger rabbit leaping, not hopping, away, so two thrills for the week.
If there is no wind, I will be spraying my daylilies as for the first time, they have contracted rust, so first cut off the bad leaves, then spray.
I have been using Cottage Farms fertilizers for roses, Hydrangeas, havn't used the flower yet, and the roses and Hydrangeas looked wonderful almost immediately.
Enjoy the week!
