@Venezia wrote:@Love to Run - Just because some people choose not to have all their personal information on a cell phone, doesn't mean they're living in the Dark Ages.
It just means they make different choices for how to protect that information.
After 25 years in I.T., I make my own decisions about what I will or will not use. But I don't live in the Dark Ages; far from it.
@Venezia I didn't say anything about anyone else. I do what suits MY lifestyle. Not having apps, banking info, or a digital wallet would be too restrictive for me, certainly making me feel behind the times. It would also be too restrictive for my 80 year old mom, as she uses all the features of her phone as well. I have evaluated the cost/benefits of my choices and I'll continue to use reasonable precautions.

We just have to be as diligent as possible. I'm in my 60s and I marvel at all the wonderful almost miraculous things in my life. My smart phone and my tablet are invaluable to me. My friend recently shared that she had breakfast with her 90 year old dad every morning. He loves 300 miles away. They Zoom every morning at 7am using their smartphones. They eat their breakfasts and chat and she gets to see for herself how her dad is doing. I'm sure he feels connected and not alone.
@chrystaltree I think some people love to share the latest scare tactics for a variety of reasons.

Good to always keep a password active on your device.
When DD left her purse in her car at a kids sports practice and it was stolen (unclear who raised that fool 🤣) she was able to "find" the phone, declare it "lost" and it was locked down. She just used my phone and it was instant.

@Venezia You're absolutely right. I've always been very careful with personal info, but definitely not in the Dark Ages. But, after being major hacked twice (once through my bank, once Amazon), I can attest to the fact that there is such a thing as justifiable paranoia.
Once someone's personal info is traveling around the world (like mine), their desire for more apps suddenly diminishes. It's a sad, growing, use at your own risk problem, destined to get worse.

I am so far back in the dark I will continue to live there as long as the banks keep printing checks.

@Marp Mine are not synced for safety reasons.

I only take my phone with me if I'm going to a meeting or somehwere I need access to my calendar or other info I have on the phone.
And, when it is outside with me .... it's in my handbag or tote.

I have no apps, banking or credit card information on it.
Same here...

@Love to Run and @chrystaltree - I was having a conversation with the police chief. I work with him to help families (but I don't work directly with him).
We have known each other a long time, and we talk.
I live in a pretty safe area. We've always had break-ins, but other things are happening.
I was not trying to "scare" anyone. I was sharing what I found out because I thought it might be helpful to someone else too.
I've learned a lot on this thread. I'm kind of between two worlds. I don't have personal social media accounts, because some of my close friends have had unpleasant experiences. I do use it at work.
So I am always learning. And as I've always told my children, I don't want to ever stop learning! ![]()

Ditto ... Dark Ages? .... it was a stupid comment.
