Re: Apples have acid and are bad for your teeth if you eat alot...................what

I've known this for years, and when I asked, my dental office hygienist/doctor says orange juice, oranges, and other acidic foods are what erode tooth enamel. However, I just recently saw/heard on TV from a dentist/doctor that we shouldn't immediately brush our teeth after eating acidic fruits. If we do, we will deepen the acidic fruits even further into the enamel. Which surprised me. So I wait about a half hour or more to brush. Although, I don't often eat apples or oranges. I do love orange juice and apple juice. I'm thinking drinking it is better than crunching the actual fruit down into and between our teeth and gums.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Many foods are acidic. Don't worry about it. But 4-6 apples a day is a lot of apples. I'd cut back to two.

The saying goes....an (1) a day keeps the doctor away....not 6!

It depends on the size of the apples. I see nothing wrong with eating four apples a day. But if you want to lose weight try celery and watermelon.

Maybe using a straw would help.

Actually you get very little benefit from the juice. The whole fruit is where you find the good stuff.

I wouldn't worry about it AT ALL!

If you were eating lemons, or drinking vinegar all day, I'd say that wasn't good. But apples? Eat away!

Well I have been eating apples to try and not eat sweets.......but I can brush my teeth each time and I don't have to eat prunes now.

Apples contain sugar. 4-6 of them contain a lot of sugar.

Fruit sugar is good for the body because it doesn't spike insulin as much, which causes us to store fat. The acid is a problem but just try to vary your fruits. Apple once, then say blueberries, raspberries, any berry or orange as a second daily fruit choice.

In order to kick the sugar addiction you must discontinue any sugared foods. No foods with sugar in the ingredients at all. No fruit at all. This takes 10-days-to-two weeks of no sugared foods, not even natural sugars or synthetic.

In place of sugars during that two weeks eat high fat, good fat foods like salmon, avocados, nuts, meats. Don't eat any bread, potatoes, beans, corn, tortillas of any kind or rice during that period either because they convert and spike your insulin, causing you to want more and also to store fat. If you want to eliminate the fat or weight you have gained, eat 6 small meals a day utilizing fresh veggies steamed, raw or baked with 3-4 ounces of meat or fish. If you eat more meat or fish, its wasted because 3-4 oz is all the body can utilize before it stores the rest as fat.

All fruit contain sugar but its a natural sugar and if not overdone, it is far better than juice, fruit wraps, etc., all with added sugar to make it sweeter. The natural sugar in fruit also does not spike your insulin like simple sugar does. Insulin spiked stores fat more.

If you want to quit sugar, buy chromium picolate 500 mg and take it after a meal. To break an addiction or habit, you want to discontinue it completely for at least 10 days. Eat good fats like nuts, avocados, meat, low fat cheeses for the substitution of any sugar and don't eat any simple carbs that spike your insulin such as bread, rice, beans or potatoes for that ten day to two week period.

Agreed. If I'm going to eat something with sugar in it, I'd rather eat an apple or two, then a half dozen (double stuffed) Oreos.
