Yep. Ages ago. It was downtown high rise elevator. One of my first jobs. It was a intern summer job in between semesters. There were abut 6 other people inside. In between floors. Someone hit the emergency button. Some men responded. They finally got the elevator doors open. It was about 6 inches off the floor. They helped us out. I was running an errand for my office. It wasn't my building. My office was wondering what happened to me! It was before there were a mobile phones. LOL. It was years later after I got my first phone, that I thought of that experience and how it would have been easy to explain to my office what happened to me.

Sounds like this was a service elevator used by
the staff members only...to move shipments, etc.
@sidsmom- I've been to the Walmart halfpint is speaking of and it definitely has two floors. In fact, the Walmart in my community has three floors with escalators and elevators.
The buggy escalator is crazy cool!

@halfpint1 As a matter of fact, yes I have been - twice. The funny thing is that both times happened in the last year of my employment (before I retired).
The first time, it was a cold and dark Michigan winter. I left work after 6pm and went to the public parking garage that my employer leased for employees. The garage was only 7 stories high and of course I was parked on 7 ![]()
I was alone in the elevator which is fine by me because I can't handle hysterical people around me. The elevator reached my floor and the door wouldn't open. I thought, okay, just a little slow going because it's so bitter cold.
That was before the elevator car started shaking and convulsing. I rang the button and spoke to the garage attendant and let them know what car I was on.
I phoned my sister (who has a key to my house). I told her what was happening, when my birds needed to be fed and put to bed, in the event the car let go and I ended up breaking a leg or something. I have a cousin who was an OTIS elevator man so I pretty much knew 7 levels wouldn't kill me.
The garage attendant came upstairs and started asking me who my manager was and stuff like that. I said, dude are you kidding me? It's after hours, what in the heck is she gonna do for me unless you're asking because she knows my next of kin.
They had to call in an OTIS elevator man and I just waited for someone to get me out, eventually.
When that man pried the door open, I walked out and said boy are you a sight for sore eyes and I gave him a hug.
For the rest of the winter I walked the flights of stairs up to my car, lol.
The second time it happened I was in the building, got into a car, the door closed and the elevator wouldn't go anywhere. At least I wasn't gonna fall. The OTIS guy had to pry that door open too.

Good God no! I used to have dreams about being in a falling elevator, and it scared the heck out of me. If it ever happened I would feel sorry for anyone on it with me. lol!😳

@SoX wow, no wonder you've tried to suppress it.

Actually @Bird mama, one good thing came out of it ... I walked four flights of stairs for months after (until I couldn't) ... good exercise. Oh, and another ... my baby boy was as healthy as could be.

Many years ago mr henny and I were at the Danieli hotel in Venice with our oldest son.
We had breakfast on the rooftop terrace and got on the elevator with another couple.
The elevator got stuck between two floors the first and the basement.
mr henny has claustrophobia and wanted to go out the roof of the car. The woman who was in the car with us was screaming her lungs out.
I picked up the phone and instead of speaking italian I was speaking a mixture of french and spanish.
Similar languages, they sent repair person to the rescue. lol!
I was more afraid of the hysterical woman and mr henny thinking he could escape through the roof (and get crushed)
Our son who was thirteen, thought it was a great adventure.

Yes - once about 5 years ago at work, also by myself. Took about 45 min for the 10 or so fire department guys to get me out. Must have been a very slow day for them.
@halfpint1 I’m glad you are ok!

Yes. I was alone but as the door was closing a guy stuck his arm through and forced it open. He had a styrofoam takeout box of some strong smelling food. We went up about six floors and the elevator stopped with a thud. Pressed the emergency button a couple of times. Voice said help might take a while, it's lunch hour and they are on break. What?!! The guy with the stinky food was nervous. When the door opened to a concrete wall, the guy flipped out. Eventually a man rapelled down to the top of the elevator and opened the hatch. A 20 ft ladder was lowered from above. The other passenger with me was totally panicked.
He was clanging around, dropped the food, and went screaming up the ladder. The ladder wasn't long enough to reach the next floor so the rescuer laid down and put his arm down so I could grab his hand. I climbed to the highest rung and the guy lying on his stomach pulled me up. I still had to hike up my leg to get onto the floor. The screamer had disappeared. I wasn't scared at the time but I might be if it were to happen again.

"He was clanging around, dropped the food, and went screaming up the ladder"
I know, I shouldn't laugh. I just can't help it
