I've read a couple of his short story collections recently, Pastoralia now his latest, Tenth of December. My first few of his stories I was scratching my head, but then I've been able to get in the flow of his imagination and I'm turning into a fan. He's just a genius, the stories and scenarios are often unsettling and upsetting, but I love the way he can pierce our balloons.
Any other fans?
If you do like his work, what other authors do you recommend?
My other favorite author / discovery this year is Carl Hiaasen, read Stormy Weather -- loved. So funny it hurts.
Then Joyce Carol Oates, My Sister, My Love -- satiric take on the JonBenet Ramsey case, but she used that as a springboard for tons of social commentary. Want to read lots more of her.
I'm thinking next I need to read Thomas Pynchon, just because he's another in the same genre according to reviewers.
