I don't know anything about them but really like the breed

They're great dogs, I think about getting one from time to time but not sure I want deal with a groomer. Standard Poodles are susceptible to bloat or gastric volvulus. It's one of the things that is truly a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate vet care, so I'd read up on it before you get him or her. Hopefully you never have to deal with it.

Thank you. I am very familiar with bloat and torsion as I have a dog who went through it last year. I know all the signs to look for and what to do to try to avoid it.

Standard Poodles are a terrific breed. My grandmother had 4. Not all at one time.
I have had 4-5 of the tiny toy's. The one's my grandmother and I had, were 8 weeks old when we got them, but the only thing I could say about one that is older when you get it, is that you most likely be retraining the dog. Depending on the situation (abuse, neglect, etc), it can be a challenge, but one I would gladly accept!
Only one thing....be prepared to groom them every 4-5 weeks. My grandmother was very talented in that area. I'm not. Taking them to be groomed is pricey, and it's hard for me to find one I trust. My pets are my children and I wouldn't trust just anyone.
Intelligent, loving, loyal! Poodles are wonderful, in every way.
I commend you for adopting and wishing you the best of luck!

I know a standard poodle that is allergic to all sorts of things (he had the skin tests done by a vet). Mostly tree things, pine, eucalyptus. The owner said it's ironic, they're hypoallergenic, but hers has allergies. He's a beautiful, friendly dog.

I know a woman who has four Poodles of various sizes, one or two being standard, and I have never heard of any problems with them. I have a Poodle/terrier mix, and he is very energetic, sweet, obedient, ready for fun, the best dog ever.

HappyDaze, have you decided to get the poodle? Do you have him yet? Please post a picture of him if you can. I've only known one person that had a standard poodle, and they thought he was wonderful. I was never around the dog, but I would like to meet one sometime.
