My husband got a job in Stafford, CT...we live in western NY & need to find a place to live soon as our house here is almost sold....I am looking at East Longmeadow on-line, what do you like about this area? Homes are SO expensive in Mass & CT!

I have a cousin who lives Longmeadow. Traffic between Hartford and Springfield can be a nightmare. Have you looked at homes in Stafford Springs? I know at one time they were considered the most reasonable in the area.

If you and/or your hubs is a sports fan, the Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Springfield. 8)

LuLu, Stafford Springs area is like living in a forrest, wow, that whole area east of Hartford is lush, green & hilly...I would like to be near more stores, not so isolated...I have only checked out a triangle area west of Stafford...all the towns are the same, very country like, woody....so different than where I live now.....thank you for your response

That entire area does not have many towns with downtown shopping areas. Most of the shopping is in the Enfield area which is mall central. Again, the traffic is a nightmare.
From East Longmeadow shopping was Eastfield mall and strip malls in the east Springfield area.

I live in West Springfield. My suggestion would be to avoid Springfield like the plague. Lots of crime and poverty. Longmeadow can be expensive. I am not real familiar with East Longmeadow.. but what little I know of it seems nice. Where is your husband's job? As someone else mentioned the traffic on 91 from CT to MA is a nightmare.

East Longmeadow is a pretty New England town, much more reasonably priced than Longmeadow. I would look for an area away from Springfield. The shopping there is fine for your everyday needs, and you can take back roads to Enfield for more shopping and also for a route to Stafford Springs to avoid Route 91. I understand that Springfield has a high crime rate, which unfortunately has become the norm for some New England cities. We live in a suburb of Hartford, in a more woodsy suburb. To us, we have the best of both worlds - the charm of an old New England town but access to places that have many different businesses. I don't know if school systems are an issue for you, but you should be able to check that out. The best way is to tour different areas with a real estate agent so you can decide for yourself. Best of luck to you.

Totally agree that you need to stay far away from Springfield. East Longmeadow and Longmeadow are both beautiful. You might also consider Somers, CT ( lower taxes) a town that borders East Longmeadow. Or Ellington, CT. Both near Stafford, CT.

East Longmeadow is very nice, but also check out Wilbraham. Agawam and Feeding Hills also have some nice areas and homes should be a bit cheaper than in East Longmeadow.
