@CJC wrote:I think you might enjoy selling if you have nice items to clear out. I seldom use ebay these days. I began as a buyer back in 1996 when the listings on ebay did not even include photos. I bought a few items going by the description alone, which seems very weird today. I collected both artist and antique teddy bears, and many of my pricey bears came from ebay sellers. Then I started selling and did well selling some of my bears as well as toys from my children's early years -- Star Wars, GI Joe, Barbie, Cabbage Patch, Care Bears etc. There is a learning curve to selling, but you will get there. Just begin with something small and simple. Pack up your item as if it has already sold and weigh it to come up with your shipping cost. Then add that cost to your listing price and offer your item with free shipping. Set your price at the lowest you are willing to accept. Remember that ebay will charge you a listing fee and a fee on the selling price. I have used Paypal for years and find them very easy to work with. My ebay feedback rating is nearly 1000, and I've never had a bad buying or selling experience, except for one collectible plate that arrived broken, and the seller immediately issued me a refund to my Paypal account. I've even made some ebay friends along the way. I know ebay is not golden, the way it used to be, but worth a try. Good luck!
I appreciate your reply. Some nice tips to consider, also!!!!

Thank you for replying. I am just thinking about it - not positive. DH said if I do decide he would help me.

@mimomof4 wrote:I use to sell items now and then on eBay. In the beginning it was very easy but as time went on it became more of a hassle so I had to stop. Buyers became much more difficult. You have to think about S&H when you post your items. If you are new to eBay, people may not bid on your items either. If you have any issues eBay and Paypal are not easy companies to work with.
Recently I have used our Nextdoor App to sell items locally or through Facebook.
Thank you. I am not sure this is something I want to get into. Just feeling it out!

@Peaches McPhee wrote:My sister does this. She reports that it is not what it used to be. . .
So many sellers on ebay, and so many choices, things are not selling fast or for much money. She used to do it year round, now she only does Christmas time. She does sell old hobby magazines (eg, woodworking, knitting, etc.), and toys.
Lots of competition. I was looking around there the other day and it seems huge! Thank you for your post!

@shopperqvc wrote:@AngelPuppy1Check the USPS web site, they offer some free boxes for Priority Shipping. I know it costs a bit more to ship that way, but the items gets there quicker. The faster the item is received, the better your rating is with their feedback. Also, you can set up for the postal person on your route to do a free pick-up which means no trip to the Post Office for you. Sometimes that is a help for you.
I have both bought and sold on eBay and it gets something you have looked at by a lot more people than if you run an ad in your newspaper. Sometimes that gets a better price for you.
Check on their web site to see what similar items are selling for so you don't over price your items. You can see what other items like yours have already sold for, too.
Just a couple of suggestions. Enjoy, and I wish you luck.
Thank you. Very good tips and info. Appreciate it!!!

@Meowingkitty wrote:I have sold several handbags, and jewelry over the past couple of years on eBay with only a couple of people who caused a problem. I only put one or two things out there at a time and once those are sold I’ll put another one out there. I do this so I don’t go crazy trying to keep it all straight. It’s pretty easy. Check what others are selling a similar item for, take a few photos and fill out the form online that eBay provides regarding the item. I’ve only had two people that didn’t pay and you don’t ship until you get paid. I’m not a business that is selling stuff, I’m just an individual who is selling a stash of handbags and a few jewelry items.
That's a good tip about just doing a couple or a few things at a time. I think I wouldn't be able to handle much more than that! Thank you.

@jackthebear wrote:these things are a lot of work,
you need to be prepared ahead before you take the plunge, I suggest you hit youtube for tutorials on how to begin and what supplies you need
there are other platforms as well on which to sell and they all have +/-
and different buyers
Thank you. After the holidays, I will do much more research on all of this before I decide to do anthing!!!

I second the recommendation to pick one of your smaller items and do a test sell to get the lay of the land and see how it shakes out.
When I was selling my doll house furniture, I was really surprised at how popular it was AND how high people were bidding on really old used stuff. LOL
My only thought is people may not have had access to a nice doll house furniture store in their area. My stuff was from some really nice specialty stores. I was happy to see so many people still enjoying doll houses.
