Re: Anyone have experience with e-bay ---

I think you might enjoy selling if you have nice items to clear out.  I seldom use ebay these days.  I began as a buyer back in 1996 when the listings on ebay did not even include photos.  I bought a few items going by the description alone, which seems very weird today.  I collected both artist and antique teddy bears, and many of my pricey bears came from ebay sellers.  Then I started selling and did well selling some of my bears as well as toys from my children's early years -- Star Wars, GI Joe, Barbie, Cabbage Patch, Care Bears etc.  There is a learning curve to selling, but you will get there.  Just begin with something small and simple.  Pack up your item as if it has already sold and weigh it to come up with your shipping cost.  Then add that cost to your listing price and offer your item with free shipping.  Set your price at the lowest you are willing to accept.  Remember that ebay will charge you a listing fee and a fee on the selling price.  I have used Paypal for years and find them very easy to work with.  My ebay feedback rating is nearly 1000, and I've never had a bad buying or selling experience, except for one collectible plate that arrived broken, and the seller immediately issued me a refund to my Paypal account.  I've even made some ebay friends along the way.  I know ebay is not golden, the way it used to be, but worth a try.  Good luck!

I am a very frequent buyer, but not a seller.

Re: Anyone have experience with e-bay ---

I've sold from time-to-time but very specific things.

For example, I sold my doll house furniture in individual pieces.

I've sold WEN and BE pieces from kits that I couldn't use in my lifetime.

You don't really make any money and it's a ton (A TON) of work.  You really do have to offer free shipping if you want your stuff to move quickly.  You also need to list it at garage sale prices if you want anyone to look at it.

I got tons of emails from potential buyers asking me to reduce prices or give it to them for free because of a laundry list of reasons.

It's a time suck and doesn't generate much money.

Several years ago, I bought items from E-bay. NOT anymore. I 've sold lots of things on Craigslist and have never had any problems.

@AngelPuppy1 I guess I'm in the minority here. I've been selling on Ebay off and on for many years and really enjoy it. Over the past couple of years, I've been selling quite a bit.

In the beginning it will be a bit time consuming until you become familiar with the selling process. It's a great place to get rid of household items you no longer use. You would not believe the miscellaneous stuff I've sold on Ebay (vacuum attachments I do not use, Keurig drip tray that came with my mini Keurig, self-help books, stove went out and my husband and I parted it out and sold the parts on Ebay and made $200).

If you really enjoy selling on Ebay once you get the hang of it, you can get into reselling where you actually purchase items elsewhere and then resell on Ebay. I do a lot of price comparisons and research to be sure what I'm thinking about purchasing will sell on Ebay and there is a market for it. What I find works best is to sell items that you are generally interested in and have some knowledge about (i.e. beauty products, designed handbags and clothing, household items, etc.).

If you have any questions, please let me know.

@MissMaggieMoo

I am glad you enjoy doing this!  I was reading some stuff on line about it and it does seem like a good bit of work to get started.  I don't know if I am up to the challenge or not.  I have to think more on it.  Thank you very much for your offer to answer more questions!!

I no longer sell.  I was up against very shifty dishonest buyers.  The stories I have to tell with no desire to say more at this point.  However when I buy I always ask questions first.  Any question to draw out the seller to size them up.  No answer I walk away.  AND I ALWAYS BUY FROM SOMEONE WHO SPECIALIZED IN ONLY ONE TYPE OF PRODUCT.  For example, in the past I bought square dance and western clothing and only from someone who only sold that type of clothing.  In  my opinion if they sell it only they are somewhat of an expert in it and take pride in it.

I never buy electronics of any kind

I always read reviews of products and THE SELLER.

I HAVE ONLY BEEN CHEATED, TAKEN ADVANTAGE ONCE AND THAT WAS WHEN SOMEONE HAD HIS FRIEND OUTBIT ME A FEW TIMES.  Those were the days when the buyer had a type of signature, no more.

@bonnielu

Fraud does scare me.  I have never purchased anything on e-bay.  I know people who do it all the time and have seldom had a problem.  I'm not sure at this poit --- I am mulling it over.  Thank you for your input, I do appreciate it!!

Thanks for your reply.  I take it that you had not such a good experience with e-bay.

Thanks --- I kind of was thinking when I was reading about it -- wow, this would be more involved and take more effort that I had thought!!
