Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

I love my Echo. There is nothing being said between me and my cats that I would care about If the entire world heard....and there are no illegal activities going on, so why on earth would I care if some 28 year old Amazon employee heard me? They would be very bored!

Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

Just like your computer canera and microphone,,,and Iphine....THEY are always listening.

My son had a consveration with a friend...about baby food...he has no children....the next day he was seeing pop up ads for Baby food and links to whole foods on his email and devices....

THEY are always listening and looking....

Also...NYS and  PA have ADDED A NEW COVID APP....

But

If you upload it...it tracks you and anyone that you come within 6 feet of...and stores the data...supposidly for Covid spreading INFO...but they dont tell you for what else....where you go, stores etc... for marketing purposes... and more...crime committed and you were near there....imagine

Nope.....too BIGBROTHER 1984 for me

Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

We have 5 in my apt, 1 each on our bedside, 1 in the bathroom, one in the living room that is hooked to our sneakers and we just added one in the kitchen.

We use it for music and weather reports and all sorts of things

I do not beleive people are listening, why would they listen to a middle income retire couple what would be the point

Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

It's great for cooking. I can set multiple timers for different things on the stove and in the oven and I don't have to wash my hands first.

Also I haven't burned a frozen pizza since I got my first Echo. I simply set about four pizza timers staggered by 1 minute inbetween them. Then if it's not ready at the first alarm, I don't forget about it and I'm reminded to go check again on the 2nd or 3rd alarm.

Any time I have some new habit I want to work on, I set an Alexa reminder to do it. It's come to the point where I don't feel I've totally committed to a new habit until I've put it in the Alexa reminders. I remind myself to contact certain people periodically, for example, in order to maintain the relationships.

I can ask how to spell words, how to say something in Spanish, what time is it in London, convert 152 Australian dollars to US dollars, what day of the week is the 8th of February 2025, what is my phone number, will it rain tomorrow. She can answer all of that.

Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

They do record some of what's being said.

There is a way you can even find out what's being recorded.  I'll have to find out from my daughter or son in law what's being copied.

Re: Anyone have an Amazon Alexa?

There have been way too many creepy stories about Alexa "listening in". We bought two of them when they first came out. For the last year they have been unplugged in the garage.

First, open the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet. Tap into the menu bar on the left-hand side and then tap Settings. Next tap Alexa Privacy, and then go into Review Voice History. This is where you can check up on all of the voice recordings Alexa has captured for you.Feb 18, 2020

Don't have one and have no plans of getting one.

@Annabellethecat66   I just followed those instructions, and Alexa only recorded things that I said to her today, nothing more.

@Annabellethecat66

All this is there are the commands we have given Alexa, like volume 5 or who is this, nothing monumental what so ever
