Anyone familiar with Durham, NC? thanks

Is it a nice place to live? Hubby wants a warmer climate than NJ and he wants Florida but I hate the heat & humidity. I notice there is a large VA Med Center in Durham. He would need a VA Center nearby.

Any info you can give would be appreciated or any other NC town you can recommend. He was in NC when he was in the Marines and remembers it to be nice but that was 40 years ago.
