Re: Anyone else uncomfortable with this term?

Nope. It's crude but I never thought of it as profanity. It slang.

Odd, but I hate that word too, even though my favorite frustration word rhymes with it. I never ever use the word that starts with "s."

You hate the word suc*k but your favorite frustration word rhymes with it?

Yeah . . . isn't that weird?

Well, I don't care for the term "that s#cks". I'd probably say, "that's sucky".

If we banned all words that had a connotation as described, we'd have to bar a lot of men's names. No more talking about Peter Jensen or Magic Johnson. No sad thoughts about the passing of Rod Taylor. No sharing recipes for baked chicken breasts.

Oh and on...

It doesn't bother me at all but I have a couple of friends who cringe when I say it. I even get scolded and told not to say it in their presence but I do it anyway!

For some reason I keep thinking of the great George Carlin's classic standup routine on "words." We are just talking about words, people, alpha characters formed together to make a word. IMO, it's what one says to people and how one says it, not the words used.

I can say "oh F" because I dropped a pencil, and I can say "F you," which has an entirely different meaning.

hyacinth....webbie must agree with you or we'd be able to write it without an asterisk. I have gotten used to the word over the years although I don't use it. If something stinks I just use that word.
