What is the purpose of putting butter and coconut oil in coffee? Just what is it suppose to do for your digestive system?

Oily coffee? GAG

It doesn't taste oily at all. It's like a cappuccino.

Butter is just cream that has been churned. It's like a coconut latte.

You froth it in a blender.

I can think of many, many more ways - healthier ways - to gain energy and lose weight than drinking coffee with oil and butter in it.

Exactly. There is study after study that shows that children and adults who eat low fat diets are actually the ones who are overweight and obese. Fat is essential for many body/brain functions. I just read a large study that involved children and it showed that the ones that ate fat actually ate less because fat makes you feel full longer.

Sidsmom, can I ask how many grams of fat you eat each day?

The coffee/butter/coconut oil mix replaces breakfast. The caffeine and the fat from the butter and coconut oil are filling and energizing. At least that's how it worked out on Day One.

I read that people with low fat diets are cranky and irritable...

Irshgrl31201: When eating a whole foods, plant based diet, you don't really need to count calories or grams, but through experience, I'm @ my best anywhere from 10-15% of my total daily calories as fat grams. I eat a diet high in starches & greens...lots of potatoes! Cold baked potatoes w/ a little salt are my Power Bars/snacks! No oils, no avocados (rarely), lots of beans. Thanks for asking!

sidsmom - do you still count the fat grams in lettuce?

Butter and coconut oil is never an ingredient in cappuccino or latte anywhere.

Again I ask, what is the purpose of butter and coconut in coffee?

If it's just like a cappuccino, why not drink a real cappuccino and save a bunch of calories and fat grams?

If butter is made from cream...how is it any different than putting cream in your coffee?

The fat grams keep you full - not jittery feeling like I get after having cereal for breakfast. Even oatmeal makes me jittery.

Drink whatever you like.

Note to self, the next time a guest wants cream for his or her coffee, hand them a stick of butter.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I can see how that would be filling, as high-fat foods tend to keep hunger at bay longer. Eating nuts works as well. I really love the way they give me energy and strength so much better than carbs alone could ever do.

Re: Anyone else try ""buttered coffee""?

""Bulletproof coffee"" (aka coffee loaded with butter or coconut oil) is the darling of the low carb higher fat diet group. Actually it's a way of avoiding eating at breakfast. Like I said. I tried it once and it was GROSS.
