Re: Anyone else interested in watching the Ken Burns' documentary The Roosevelts? PBS tonight

I'm watching the entire series on my computer via my PBS station ... I can now take my time and watch as much or as little as I want each day. I only have to finish the first episode by September 28.

It's great ...

There's no one like Ken Burns to bring fascinating subjects and events to life! With that said, I'm finding this series to be very plodding so far. Perhaps if it wasn't as lengthy overall, it might be paced better--JMHO. Here's hoping it'll pick up tomorrow!

Really enjoying most of it. Ken Burns does a terrific job. The footage is amazing, thought tonight was the best episode yet. I think it will get even more interesting in future episodes. I taught American history for many years and I am enjoying learning some new info. The human element playing out against world events is exceptionally well integrated and fascinating.

It is always interesting to learn more about Eleanor and how she was such a wonderful and generous woman in spite of her husband. FDR, never a favorite, was selfish and cruel, in spite of his whitewashed 'legacy'. chum

Just a little FYI - It is mentioned in some of the posts that this is a very long series. I didn't realize how long until I heard Ken Burns on NPR talking about it.

The Roosevelt series in 14 HOURS long from start to finish. It will be on for 2 hours each night for an entire week - starts on Sunday Sept 14 and ends on Saturday Sept 20. It is repeated once right after it is first shown. In the Central Time Zone, each episode is first shown from 7 to 9 pm and then the same episode is repeated from 9 to 11pm.

Here, it repeats until about 4-5:00 am.

I have been watching the series and am also enjoying it!! I did find the flow of the series a bit confusing...with going back and forth between Roosevelts, family members and different homes. I really liked Eleanor and also feel sorry for her. The mother in law and FDR sound like they were difficult people. All in all, a very thorough view at a very influential family!!

Eleanor finally comes into her own at some point in her life. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of her story. I looked on Wiki to see when she died and skimmed over coming events in her life.

I remember hearing about her as a child. My mother thought she was wonderful.
