Just a little FYI - It is mentioned in some of the posts that this is a very long series. I didn't realize how long until I heard Ken Burns on NPR talking about it.
The Roosevelt series in 14 HOURS long from start to finish. It will be on for 2 hours each night for an entire week - starts on Sunday Sept 14 and ends on Saturday Sept 20. It is repeated once right after it is first shown. In the Central Time Zone, each episode is first shown from 7 to 9 pm and then the same episode is repeated from 9 to 11pm.

I enjoyed it. It seemed to move a little slowly at first, but not for long.
And...WOW. Teddy Roosevelt was a bit crazy, to say the least. Bloodlust was a mild description of him. Didn't come away with a great impression of him at all.
It surprised me how handsome he was, especially in his younger years.
Franklin's story, so far, was kind of sad. He didn't seem to fit in with people his own age.

As I said earlier, I was a little disappointed in it since a lot of the things I already knew. But dd watched and I was watching also. The narrators did a great job and those who did the voices. Loved them.
I agree with Sunshine. I think hour long would have been optimal.

I knew I'd like this, because I enjoy biographies.
I thought the young TR was good-looking, too - Looks like he had light eyes.
Looking forward to the rest.

I learned that Eleanor married her cousin, which I never knew in spite of watching PBS shows on her life. I channel surfed, watching other shows, but going back to this, and since it was rerun so many times, I am sure that at the end, I had seen it all. The next shows should be more interesting as Franklin and Eleanor's lives are dealt with.

Since these usually re-air several times during the week, perhaps some might like to watch it in 2 parts instead of the full 2 hours at one sitting? I think if you check your local schedules, you'll find multiple showings throughout the week.
I read an article that said Burns was determined to show the family "warts and all," so we get to see and hear things we might not have known otherwise. I look forward to the next shows!
I'd like to see back to back to back (a marathon, actually) of this series, so I'm going to watch the repeat of the first before watching the second installment.
Too bad I don't know how to work my DVR.

I loved it! Fascinating, it gave the background for the families, which is important in understanding who they were and what made them.
I didn't know that Eleanor was orphaned at a young age ,or that FDR had been a misfit for years, or that Teddy was quite the killer.
I should have taped it, I'd like to see it again to catch more of the details. I started to watch the second round of it but I fell asleep, it had been a long and eventful day.

My husband was watching football last night, so we recorded it and will watch it together later. I can't wait!

Does anyone have an idea why Teddy enjoyed killing so much? He started with animals & birds, which is pretty creepy.

According to the program, he was embarrassed about his father buying his way out of serving in the Civil War.
