Yep, and pets too! ![]()
Especially senior and elderly ones who also sometimes forget to stay hydrated.
Please put out several bowls of water, on different stories and in different rooms.
Then refresh them every morning and evening.

Forgot to mention that there are tons of people - of all ages - with "invisible illness".
Anyone could have chronic daily health challenges.
You never really know what's going on, if you just assume/judge by outward appearance.

Bay Area temps shown here:

I posted this earlier, but NOAA.gov recorded the high in San Francisco today at 1:43pm, it was 93, or was it 96? Good Lord, now I forget. But I know it was at least 93. Seriously, that is hot for San Francisco. When I have been there is seems really hot at 80 degrees!

Hi Shoekitty, yes, it had gone up into the 90s, last I checked.
People here aren't used to that which makes it dangerous, especially to those at risk for heat related illness.
I hope you are ok down there ![]()

Thanks for the important alert, but it's not just elderly/senior persons who are ill or not.
There are many of us of every age who aren't independent, whose bodies can't cope with high temps or bad humidity, outside or inside.
And it can be equally life-threatening.
Sending out good vibes to those trying desperately to cope...
I hope that relief is found ASAP.

You are right, and it's especially serious for those with asthma, it is with any temp change like this. It's life threatening, not something for someone to chastise others, accusing them of being complainers.

San Mateo is 101 right now, other areas will get to at least 106 today.
Weather reports keep saying there is no AC in almost all of the Bay Area, true.
The crime is that there are also almost NO cooling centers for those who have trouble with the heat.
That's scary and dangerous for those who are not used to dealing with this kind of heat.

You are so right! And a lot of our homeless are US veterans who are sick, need help and have nowhere to go to get out of the direct sun,
You're both right.
But what's worse (IMHO) is the innocent and mostly-helpless children and animals who suffer
, who never asked to be born to begin with.
Our electric company wants us to cut back on usage. One of my cats lays in front of the A/C unit in the living room trying to stay cool, so I for one am going to do whatever it takes to keep him comfortable. My cats come first!

My cats, too! We have Persians and the minute they look uncomfortable, we will trim their heavy fur. One loves to lick ice cubes, so that helps.

I'm in Oxnard, CA and it reached mid-80s today. Not only is it HOT but it's HUMID. I'm older and not feeling well --- so it's been difficult for me to breathe. It cools off in the evening with mild breezes, so it's bearable now. There's been severe rain showers a few hours away -- hoping the rain comes to this area - Ventura County. Can't remember the last time it rained.

Must have been in the Mojave.
I was going to guess San Bernardino County. Sorry to say, but I am a "complainer". I am in my mid 60's and the older I get, the less I can tolerate this heat and humidity.

Will it help if I say I loved working among the grape vines?

Then I would say Fresno...in the days before Cesar Chavez and theUFW.. Nmaybe Delano
......................................................................................
You are hundreds of miles away.
Speaking of Chavez.... why did no one say anything when locals in Ca. growing up in all the farming & ranching areas, also among the fields never complained. Teens in high school had jobs all during the summer. Every year. It was natural for everyone. Fresh fruit and veggies all summer and spring. It was a fun time for teens.
But along comes outsiders, and it turns into poor things...so on and so forth....you understand?

Today I went out for a hot fudge sunday...yum...and the temp was 101 degree and it was the early afternoon.
As long as I can remember we do have temps in the 100s almost every year.
