I live alone, and have an anxiety disorder that keeps me in my apartment. For many years have always ordered groceries online, and order my take out with delivery service included.
I never use 3rd party delivery services. I do not trust them.
I have a few favorite local mom and pop Asian and Italian that I regularly order take out from. They provide their own in-house delivery service. There is a reasonable delivery charge. And all are contactless delivery. I add a generous tip to show my appreciation and help support the local restaurants during this deadly pandemic. Never had or have a problem.
“Stay safe. Stay home.”

I realize it can greatly vary by area, but my DoorDash has been a nightmare.
I've had lots of deliveries-all good luck, good service, good food! Thanks!

I order from a delicatessen and unfortunately they do use a third party delivery service but I only used it when there was a complete shut down although they did have curbside delivery at the time but I didn't want to do that. I feel comfortable now to go in person. Their food is so good and honestly I feel healthier than ever; for example they sell frozen brisket patties in a variety of styles such as with caramelized onions with black pepper, applejack with bacon,, or just brisket. They are so good and so much better than ground round. I was not a big meat eater before and I think not everyone can subsist on plant protein and feel good with zero meat in their diet.

We never use a delivery service. We pick up our food and either go to a local park and eat it or bring it home. Never a problem.

Fabulous, But the poster asked about delivery services.

My daughter and her husband both work for different Darden concepts and the concepts they work for refuse to do business with Door Dash.

I don't really know how any of this works but I order directly on the restaurant app, then I get redirected to Door Dash to pay. I don't use Door Dash directly. I tried it once, my restaurant wasn't on the list and DD told me not to order through Door Dash. So anyway.
I get the name & phone number of the driver and can watch on a map where they are. I have no complaints really, but I have low expectations. I have high expectations for my doctor for example but food delivery, not so much.
I've seen rants on FB over a $2 missing condiment.
You're example was awkward. My first reaction was to make the driver take it back but I would have done what you did. My house is clearly marked above the door & other places on my property but I still get my neighbors food & other deliveries. There are more important things to stress over.
@elated wrote:I never order but my neighbor does. About a week ago someone knocked on my door and left a food order. When I opened the door and saw it, I caught the driver and told her it was not my order. She was from Door Cash and said she already swiped delivered. She couldn't go back and find the correct apartment number. I knocked on my next door neighbor 's door and it was her order. The driver handed her the order and thanked me as she drove off.

@denisemb wrote:Two in two orders. 1st was rather innocuous, and did a live chat to see what I did wrong as I ordered an ordinary Arby's roast beef sandwich. Said it was served with Arby's or Horsey sauce. Looked at the drop-down additions & it listed about 10-12, but not A or H sauce. Figured it was automatically added.
Rep said to request under "Special Instructions" Did a test and our store said they are unable to do Special Instructions. Figured, "oh, well".
Started receiving a bunch of emails "Was your problem solved?" No, and described again. Said I had thrown out my dry sandwich.
In the meantime, ordered KFC to be delivered between 3:00-3:30 pm. Delivered at 2:35. As we live in FL where Covid-19 is zooming, we go through a lot for social distancing. (Open garage door, open trunk, and request driver to deposit there.) 25 minutes early was not great from guy with no mask or gloves.
Figured it was over as we'd been charged for both orders. Nope, received an UPDATE to our KFC order - Full amount refunding $3.21, not just a refund for $3.21. Another "chat" re: if I was going to be charged $27+ in addition to the other I'd already been charged. A few more emails if we were satisfied (but none addressing that issue).
Next rec'd an email asking how I'd prefer to handle this.
"By totally deleting my acct. & never contacting me again." If they charge my bank acct. again, I'll declare fraud.
Hey, I've used GrubHub, Instacart & Walmart pick-up numerous times and NEVER had any issues. Weird.
This sounds like way too much mess for a darn fast food meal.
I think I'll stick to cooking at home, or opening a can of soup. Much less stress, much saved money.

Thanks to everyone replying, and your solutions.
Unfortunately live in an area where it seems all the mom-and-pop restaurants went out of business and we're left with fast-food and chains that deliver through 3rd party only. (Gotta admit we have a nearby Greek restaurant with FABULOUS food where DH did pick-up at least once a week for the past few months, but we're tired of it.) Also never want to see pizza again.
And cooking for ourselves has gotten old, because grocery ordering is hit-or-miss - seems to be missing one or two crucial ingredients to finish a recipe.
I foresee my diet relying on cereal and fried bologna sanwiches. ![]()

@Mz iMac wrote:I only order delivery directly from the restaurant. I am not paying a 3rd party too. Not limited. Why should I be?
We also only order directly from the restaurant after reading how much they are charging the restaurant. I don't remember the exact amount but it was a lot. Our favorite carry out restaurant used Grub Hub and there was just an extra three dollar charge for us but the restaurant really got ripped off. Now we call the restaurant directly and pick it up ourselves.
