Anyone else getting prepared for their tax return?

I have already put alcohol on my shopping list this weekend and a good cushion to sit down on just in case I am forced to bend over for Uncle Sam this year. I never have but, with all the new stuff in place, I am unsure what this year will bring.

It better bring a healthy refund check like always.  I have never paid in my life and don't intend to start now.

The only thing I think I will finally be paying for is to E-file. I miss the days when you could just go to the library, pick up a form, follow instructions, and mail it in.  For free.  Giving up money to get my own money back is just not a world I think I should live in.

None of the free files will let me file free since I have the audacity to contribute to my HSA outside of my paycheck at the end of the year.  Smiley Surprised  Don't you love it when you get punished for being responsible and doing the right thing?  Probably going to cost me $30 minimum for the federal and I haven't even done the state yet.

For all of those getting ready to take on the task, I am virtually throwing the holy water, passing out tissues and grief pamphlets, and lining up the requisite liquor shots on the bar.

Tax time 2019 here we come!  Laura needs a refund check for her EZ Pays!!  Smiley Very Happy

Started.  In sad state.  Our accountant and friend and neighbor passed away recenlty.  Looking for assistance and I guess I will have to adjust.  We do not do our own taxes.  I feel doing it right makes a difference and while I have "writing talent" I am "out ot lunch"  when it comes to math.  Meet new guy soon.

I'm still waiting for my 1095 from my ACA insurance coverage. Won't get that form until early Feb. I also need my 1099, too, and that should be here this week. I file EZ so nothing complicated and it goes very fast. I use free tax software and the only thing I pay for is a $15 fee to transfer last year's basic data over onto my new return...less chances for error this way.

We take all our stuff to our accountant & let him worry about it...between our business and our personal, plus a tiny income I get from my grandfather's estate (and each of these is a different state), it's just too complicated. He's worth every penny, and has saved us more than we ever pay him!

@Laura14

I never receive all my documents for dividends and interest until mid-late February. Filing for 2018 will be especially difficult with the inheritance from Mom's Trust and I also began taking the Minimum Distributions from my IRA's that weren't rolled into Roth's and Company Retirement Accounts (which I hadn't touched yet).

I have my taxes done professionally. Too many things need to be addressed by my CPA and verified with my broker and attorney for inheritance reasons (to my son and grandson).

Hope your numbers crunch positively and you receive a nice refund!

@bonnielu I hear you!

Give me words and I'm your girl...I'll turn a few sentences into a thing of beauty. But my head explodes when confronted with numbers!

I do my own taxes - used to use TurboTax but with the new tax law I won't be itemizing anymore so I will file online.  Sadly, my taxes are going up since even if I itemize, I will lose deductions on home equity indebtedness in my mortgage.   I have a Master Degree in Accounting so I am very familiar with the impacts of the new tax law.     I have already beefed up my withholding but it is still unfortunate.  I suspect many filers don't realize all the impacts.

I am in no hurry, since the kids grew up and the house is paid off we always have to pay.

I am happy though that my daughter thinks she will get back around 2,000. Hopefully, my son and his wife will get some back too. Hope you get some back, @Laura14.

I think I should get a deduction for my dogs to be honest. I take better care of them than some people do their kids. I'm not brave enough to cheat. Well, I really don't know how I would get them ss numbers to be honest, lol.

I keep good records all year, so once the brokerage 1099's are out in mid-February, all I need to do is burn everything to a disk, hand it over to my accountant and head for the airport to go back to the beach.

I haven't gotten a refund in years. I try to manage my estimated payments so that I either break even or owe a very small amount. Any refund that would be due me just gets applied to estimated payments for the following year.
