Re: Anyone else feel Lost in translation?

I find texting very useful at times. However, if someone sends me an important communication and they don't hear back from me, I am mystified why they don't follow up with a phone call to the landline or the cell.

I'm confused...if the phone is turned off, how do you receive phone calls? If it's turned off not to receive text, then it's turned off to receive calls....moot point, yes?

I think some people just like to be...different. Being a "sheeple" isn't good for a lot of things, but when it comes to technology & communication, I want to be like everyone else. Safety in numbers. You will be left behind.

It's called freedom. you should try it sometime.

If I had grandchildren, like the OP does, I would gladly give up & do anything I had to spend more communicative time with them. If that means being on 24/7, so be it. Life isn't just about me...but maybe I just view the world differently.....

Re: Anyone else feel Lost in translation?

I've only given my cell # to family and a few close friends. I leave it on 24/7 and I keep it next to the bed at night. In case of emergency, it's right there.

For those worried about the cost, there are plans that allow unlimited texts or so many before you're charged.

Most of the younger generation (I include people in their 30s) text more than call on the phone.

Probably most of us don't want freedom from family and other loved ones.

I prefer a text over a call any day.

If you are old and got nothin' to do besides talk to people on a forum I guess texting with family is a dig deal

I do not text. I use to the phone, almost always our landline.

I guess I do not understand why the OP's family do not call her if this is what she requested.

You would know about time, especially with the dozens of alternate nics you use.

But yes, most people with family they love like to talk with them, one way or another. So sorry you don't have that in your life.

Re: Anyone else feel Lost in translation?

I don't bother with texting. Waste of time for me. Email is bad enough. I also never carry my cell phone with me. It rests in the console of my car for auto emergencies only, unless I have to call someone to tell them I'm running late. I don't think I have to be in contact with people every minute of the day. How DID we survive all those years with none of this distraction?

Re: Anyone else feel Lost in translation?

Why should grandparents and parents have to ""give in"" to their children in order to be in contact with them? It's like an unspoken ultimatum: You'd better text me or we won't be in contact with each other. Wouldn't it be really nice if children learned to give a little of themselves and make that phone call to make their grandparents happy? Just wondering...
