Anyone cartilage pierced?

I had my ear cartilage pierced about a year ago...nothing but trouble. I loved the way it looked with a little diamond twinkling high in my ear. But it swelled often, sometimes bled. Sometimes it was fine for months. I've had it, I took it out for good and now feel stupid for even doing it. Anyone here have it work out for them?
