OMG....I didn't know that MGM.....they were there? How horrible for those girls.

Amazing Grace isn't a traditional Catholic hymn.
I had NO IDEA until today that it was written by a seaman involved in the slave trade...who wrote it as part of his conversion.
How totally appropriate!

What a testament to Rev. Pinckney that his flock all forgave the shooter in that astounding court appearance. I will never forget watching it live. What grace, indeed!
He was a true leader.

I haven't really been a fan of Don Lemon, CNN, but he's done well today. Lemon is churched, so much of what has been said today reached out to draw so many of us from different denominations together.

@kittymomNC wrote:This funeral was undoubtedly a celebration of the life of Rev. Pinckney and the lives of the other eight people whose time here was cut short. I thought the eulogy given by the President was one of the most uplifting yet honest "sermons" or "talks" I've ever seen from him, not counting the one for Beau Biden, which was so much more personal. Amazing Grace is one of my favorite hymns, it was sung at my mother's funeral, and the way he started singing it brought tears to my eyes.
I hope we won't have to see anything like this again for a long, long time....
Yes, it was very uplifting......what a beautiful service to celebrate the life of the Rev. Pinckney and the 8 other lives that were lost.
Amazing Grace has always been my favorite hymns. I too hope we don't have to see anything like this ever......
Prayers go out to the families, the congregation, and the people of Charleston. They can hold their heads up high......and be proud.

terrier,
Yes, a man who had been in the slave trade. Atonement.
And It Is Well, It Is Well With My Soul was by a man who had lost everything, his family, from a ship going down if I remember correctly.
I love both of those hymns ![]()

Noel, those are the words I was going to post. Two minds on the same channel.

What an emotional day this has been, I feel drained.
Joy in the morning, followed by the pain of loss in the afternoon.

No, I wouldn't have watched it even if I was home today. And I'm not going to watch the recaps on the nightly news. What would be the point of making myself feel sad? It was a horrible tragedy, a terrible waste of life, families and friends have suffered great losses due to one man's racism and mental issues. I didn't know any of the people who died. For me, watching the funerals on tv would serve no purpose at all. I'd rather do something positive in their honor.
