@Anonymous032819  ...... I will be spending Christmas alone but it is my choice. Every since my husband died I have preferred to spend the holidays alone for some "quiet" time. I like to reflect back to past holidays shared not just with my husband but with other family members that have passed away. To remember the love we all shared makes the holiday just as special now as it was then. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a reminder that though you may feel you are alone as @LadyAlice  said you never walk alone.

@Sheila P-Burg  I feel as you do. I prefer to be alone, a quiet day of reflection. But I won’t be alone. I should be grateful I guess.  I’m sure it will be a nice day.

Re: Anyone Spending Christmas Day Alone?

I have in the past spent many Christmases alone.  My first career (16 years) out of college was as a military recreation specialist in Germany (later Okinawa and Korea) and the job was to provide wholesome activities for off duty soldiers. I worked every Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day ( you get the picture).  On holidays I usually worked until 1 am and then back at 8 am with coffee and programming for lonely young men (usually sad and sometimes drunk).  Especially my first year, I was 22 and missing my family stateside.  I had a sad little tree with my first ornaments made of walnuts and straw; I remember putting on Johnny Mathis "It'll be a blue Christmas without you" (bad idea). As years went by I embraced helping others enjoy their holidays ( included my taking 20 Okinawan girl volunteers to Midnight Mass, leading soldiers carolling in"the ville"(local bars) Korea, or gathering five of my likewise lonely friends and sharing gag gifts.  My life is more " normal" now (DH, son and grands) and now I look back fondly on my lonely holidays.  I hope you find a way to enjoy your holidays!

I suggest going to a movie and enjoying yourself, out for Chinese food afterwards too. Better than wallowing at home thinking about being alone.

I'm alone, too, and not by choice.

I miss miss miss my husband of 50 years.

Yes, my husband was killed 7 years ago in a cycling accident. My family doesn't like me because I'm a Democrat. It's okay tho, I got used to it.

Re: Anyone Spending Christmas Day Alone?

The first few years were more difficult alone, after a nasty divorce. 15 years alone now.I am an only child and do not have family. Friends have their  own families. I dont really feel alone as have my Rescue Labs to cuddle with and walk. I didn't go to church as so crowded. Many attend only at Christmas and Easter.

My Mom is alone all day today too. I live out of state and have a trip planned to see her for next week.

My sister is 10 minutes away from her and is not busy today. Will she stop over to see Mom? Nope. Nuff said.

You can feel alone in a crowd.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.
