Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

Sorry for your loss; the first holiday season without your mother will be the hardest but t (if you are like me) the fun will return but the holidays will never really be the same.  Now might be a time for you to make peace with your sister, it seems like the invitation to dinner was an olive branch.  She knows you are alone and it was nice thing to do.

It blesses my heart to see how many of you have been so kind to Jordan and others in your responses to their sadness at this time of year.  It can be really tough... for me, as well.

I'm sorry about your mother.

But, honestly, I think you're safer staying home this year by yourself.  It's just the way it is for now.

Not sure if your sister is hosting a group, but if she's alone, and you know she's safe, perhaps you could extend an invite to her for the upcoming holiday.

@Mz iMac

I have lots of great memories from "you know who" Marina😉casino.

We went to many great events there including the Christmas invitational dinners "they" hosted but best memory I won a CAR!  He presented me the keys and it was the most unbelievable experience ... we have lots of good pics.  The one time they used to host "The Apprentice" night & he showed up.

Yes, Resorts was the 1st casino we went the week they opened.  Just surprised they've survived considering all the casinos opening at racetracks, like Philadelphia Park, etc.

The casino here is tribal casino ... only thing they offer is "take your $$.".. no comps, no incentives like AC...so we don't frequent often.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I will catch up with my watchlist and will checkout the boards.

I too hate the holidays now but for a different reason. I was diagnosed almost 5 years ago with incurable cancer & was given 1 to 2 years. But I'm still here. Every holiday I wonder if it will be my last as I look around at my family. This year is harder with covid & not being together. Will this be my last Thanksgiving? I don't worry so much about myself but for my family. It's hard on them too. But this is part of life. I have WONDEFUL memories of past holidays going back to when I was a kid and my family will too when I'm gone. I write this not for pity, no one wants that, but to let you know that there are others who understand you. Please take some time Thursday & remember the good times even if they do bring on the tears. I know I have some doozies that make me laugh until I cry. Now THOSE are the good tears. Good luck to you.

@suzykee   I am so sorry that  you are dealing with this cancer diagnosis.

You are an incredibly strong person to work through all that you do.

....thinking of you and wishing you blessings.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

It seems like Thanksgiving and Christmas just makes you feel like some kind of outcast or freak because you don't have a loving family.   We used to run from it by going to the mountains or on a cruise.  It did help and made us feel better.  Now we are unable to do that so we try to just ignore it but it is hard.  At least on this forum we have each other to share with.  Thank you all for posting and making me and others not feel so alone.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

My husband passed away 76 days ago.  Normally I love the holidays, this yeaer I am dreading them like you would not believe.

My daughter and son in law will be here for Thanksgiving. Very toned down  Turkey breast, potatoes, dinner rolls and a veggie.  No dessert as hubby was the dessert eater.

I have not bought one Christmas gift.  We were going to scale way back anyway but just not feeling it.

I cry every day and I just hate it.  I have a few decorations out but not many.

Nope not looing forward to it at all

Or a kitty. Mine mean the world to me and when my mom died they gave me a reason to get up because I had to feed them and do their litter boxes.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

I am so sorry, and I truly get it about the "afterthought" invitation.  I wouldn't want to go either.  I've posted this before, but it is just my husband and me for both holidays always.  We have no children.  We both have siblings.  We have occasionally been invited to their homes in the past for the actual holiday, but not often, and it feels so "afterthought-ish" that I decline.  Like it's an obligation for them to ask us if they think of us, and I would feel like an intruder on their holidays especially Christmas.  They may not mean it like that, but that's how it feels.  So my husband and I basically treat it like another day and move forward.  But at least we have each other!  When one of us is finally left alone, who knows what the situation will be.  And with Covid, we wouldn't go this year even if it weren't an afterthought.
