Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

So my mother passed this year, I took care of her, now I live alone. I have a sister, we have never been very close. She invited me yesterday for Thanksgiving, I have already bought myself a turkey breast and sides I'm planning to make. I feel my sister invites me at the last minute, like a, oh by the way, and invites me out of obligation. I told her no. It will be a very lonely and sad holiday season.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for strength and hugs for comfort. Sometimes being alone is better than feeling lonely with those that make you feel like an afterthought.

@Jordan2 I am so sorry for your loss and for your sister being a little thoughtless (perhaps). I live alone and, while my dad is still alive (he's 94), I know I will be just like you before very long. I hate holidays. I personally think that, on the whole, holidays cause more negative emotions than positive ones. I also find it a little annoying when well intentioned poeple say something like "just go do volunteer work on that day....help feed the homeless, etc." That misses the point. I think it's smart to remember that "holidays" are just a socially contructed "thing." The only meaning they have is what you give it. I think it might be a radical idea to try enjoying the day alone (and sincerely enjoying it) if that's possible. Wish we knew each other and lived nearby; we could meet at Starbucks for a Holday coffee and share our wisdome together.  Smiley Happy

I feel for the OP and everyone who is sad & lonely at this time of year. I too get depressed & stressed-out during the holidays and feel guilty for it as think I should be happier and more thankful for what I have. I don't know why I get so down but I do.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

@Jordan2   You have my condolences regarding your mother.

I am looking forward to the holidays.  I'll be staying at a casino for a few days starting tomorrow.  My brother will meet me there.

Doing the same for Christmas except this time paramour will join me.  My baby brother will come down for a room service Christmas breakfast spread.  At that time we exchange gifts.  Afterwards we all go swimming.

EDIT:  Bro just called to let me know he was able to get a hotel room the same dates I have.  He will be bringing to breakfast his floozy of the week. Told him she is not invited to X-mas breakfast unless YOU BOTH wear a mask at all times except when eating.

I do not  have any interest in the holidays, at all. Tough time of year.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

@Jordan2  So sorry you lost your mom and will be alone this holiday season! I might be in the minority here, but I am suggesting you might want to reconnect with your sister. It will probably be awkward, but you may find some connection. Maybe consider eating, drinking and then playing a game. Hope I'm not overstepping.

@Mz iMac Is the casino your permanent home?    If it is............ahh what a life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my mother over 20 years ago and my father the same year. The holidays have not been the same since. I hope you can find some joy in this time of year.

Re: Anyone Not Looking Forward To The Holiday Season

I have my sights set on January 2nd.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
