Money always works especially for extended family but seeing as how she has a credit card that I pay, a debit card that I fund the account for and cash money to make sure she always has a little walking around money . . . I still like to buy little "surprises".

Fill ziploc type bags (whatever size you need) with popcorn and place between items. They prevent the "banging" and crushing of other items while supplying an additional treat......the popcorn.
I told my DD this and she said, "and I can eat the popcorn." ![]()

When I was in college (late 70s - early 80s) my parents' care package was always unexpected, but so special that I'll always think about it and smile. Even the guy behind the counter at the Post Office knew what was inside that box.
Out of the blue, I'd get that piece of paper telling me I had a package to pick up. No matter what was going on, this package made everything better.
My parents would send me a box of strawberry creams from See's Candies. I want so badly to taste one of these again, but the company has discontinued them.
So all I have is the wonderful memory.
Find something really special to send -- he'll never forget the feeling.

Focksie, just read your post -- thanks for the idea -- and the laugh!!

For those doing care packages for loved ones at college, I just wanted to post about the Cheryl and Co. $5 cookie card. One of their frosted buttercream cutouts in a cute box. The $5 covers the cookie and the postage. I've sent them several times and they've been well received.

When our son was in the Navy stationed in Guam, I would send things from home that he couldn't even buy there. One was our local beef jerky. He also loved a special brand of cashews. I did the same when he was in college.
It meant so much to him, a package from home. And I always sent enough to share.
I would insure your packages.

I was able to have regular deliveries (cookies, cakes, balloons, custom orders) to my DS with these services while he was away. It saved a bundle on shipping and handling and they delivered to his dorm/apartment.
Also check out student groups on campus who often offer care packages delivered to students. They may have specials when mid-terms or finals are taken. Sometimes the alumni association does it.

Hi there
I sent many care packages during the years of undergrad and grad school. I baked cookies and sent them off. My trick was to wrap each cookie or bar individually and then another layer over the bunch of them. I usually put that in the care box in a lock and lock or Gladware.
You have to consider the season, also. If it's summer or just hot weather, some things might not travel well.
