Didn't quite know where to post this. Some people get upset if it isn't in the right place. Anyway....I was watching a morning show and they were talking about people who are called "Professional Hugers".
These are people who travel around and get paid (quite well huging people). There is no way I would let a stranger hug me. Ugh!
As an American I can tell you we don't talk about it but we all (most) have a personal space that when someone comes into it 'uninvited' it makes us (the people I ask) uncomfortable.
I've heard stories (and had it happen) where people move so close to me like at the grocery store checkout counter, that I (others) keep moving to the outside isle.
I've had checkers ask the person behind me if they could move so I can pay.
I would have to say I am a huger in that I hug hello and good-bye and some in-between.
I just have never heard of a professional huger. That is a job I definitely would not want.
What say you people?

I say there are some people who never experience affectionate human touch. If they feel comforted, less in pain or otherwise happier after hugging, it's no different than having a massage or going to therapy, IMO.

Depends on what he looks like.

I worked with the public for many many years...and sometimes I had to reach out and hug them....or they would hug me....
Many people only have human contact when they are out shopping...and we as cashiers are the only ones they ever get to talk to....some of them have such sad stories that I would tear up...I felt so sorry....some would grab my hand and didn't want to let go....
I am retired now...and it can be very isolating if you don't have friends or family...fortunately I have both....I am hoping the younger generation of public servants are kind to the lonely people out there...it only takes a few minutes of your time to touch a hand or give a hug....

I like my space too, unless it's family or friends. And even then, I have my boundaries! Lol
But I've noticed a lot of people just push their way in, reach over or around you, stand so close behind you in line that you can practically feel them breathing on you. I hate this.
ETA: regarding hugging, I am.a hugger when I feel emotional towards someone, or someone is hurting. But you do have to be careful sometimes to not get in someone's space.

I think you mean ""hugger"". I certainly don't want anyone to ""huge"" me. I'm plenty big enough already!

There are NEVER enough hugs in life.

Sometimes someone just needs a hug. A simple thing can mean so much. Try it sometime.
