I called them and a couple other places and none will give me any idea of a price. I need to empty out my father’s house since he can no longer live there at age 92. It’s a two bedroom house with a basement...he was almost a hoarder. You name it, it’s in his house.
The other problem is that his house is about 50 miles from me so I don’t want to have to go over there for a free estimate only to find out the price is extreme and I’d have to find another company and do it all over again. TIA.

Maybe you could take pictures and email them what you want removed.

@Mmsfoxxie Unfortunately, most of these companies won't give a quote without seeing the area that needs to be decluttered.

I have used two different similar companies. One was when I was emptying out my father's house. We threw a lot of stuff away and then had an estate sale. They didn't give us an estimate but charged by how full their truck was. It was a very reasonable price. They came twice.
I also used a company like that to clean out my garage. They charged by how full the truck was, too. I thought they were expensive but not unreasonable. I would do it again.

I was listening to the radio either yesterday or today (I listen daily) and a commerical for I got junk came on. the commerical said you only pay for how much you fill up the truck. so if you only fill up 1/4th of the truck that is all you pay and so forth, BUT they did not give you (in this commerical) just how much a full truck would cost.
contact either your hometown newspaper and write a letter to editor, the editor may be able to get an answer for you or even contact local t.v. station to see if they have a help desk or news person who can give you an idea of how much this business would cost a rought guessimate is better than am unexpected bill for $1000.00 or higher.

@Mmsfoxxie :how are you not getting an estimate before you empty his place? Surely you want to go through his stuff (even if only to see if you want any of it)? If it were me, I would get an able bodied person to accompany me to your Dad's place, make decisions, pre-sort stuff, maybe call someone to haul away junk and then arrange for someone to deal with the rest of it.

@Mmsfoxxie Nowhere close to $1,000. This was about four years ago, so I don't remember exactliy. It was about $500 the first time at my dad's and maybe $300 the next time. There was a lot of stuff, and they worked really hard.
For my garage it was more like $150 - $200.

I have used them twice, and once they were reasonable and the second time, they were a bit high. They don't give estimates beforehand, but do ask them what their minimum charge is. That was my mistake the second time I used them. I think they give discounts if you book online.

I would never ever call them again. We had some stuff in our back yard that we wanted removed. It was a few ceramic pots, and some bricks and an old swing. They came out and quoted me one price and 5 minutes later after discussing it with each other they doubled the price. It went from about $300 to almost $650. Nothing was changed in those 5 minutes. I told them in no uncertain terms to leave. I found a private dad and son company that did it for around $250. If you have the Nextdoor app maybe you can ask around. If all the stuff wasn’t so awkward and bulky I would have just placed the stuff on my curb, call the city and they charge $25 for each 15 minutes.
