When we had a Pocono Mountain place, I can remember golfers near our home on the golf course talking about a bear that came out of the woods and went into the water hazard to cool off one  very hot August afternoon.

Another time, a woman had just driven around a corner and yelled out to the griller to run back into his house because a bear was coming out of the woods to check out the food.  This was just down the street from our place.

Very early one AM, DH was sitting out in our enclosed screened porch and saw a mama bear walking outside the porch.  She was annoyed with the two little cubs who were more into playing than looking for food.  Glad I got up fast enough to catch this sight.

And then one late morning, I was cleaning up minor post-construction mess from the porch addition when I noticed 3-4 cars stopped on the road in front of our house.  Here this would be considered major traffic.  Then I saw what the attraction was:  a juvenile bear was standing upright at my neighbor's bird feeder ( not permitted here ) and actually twisting the metal apart in his hands to get to the food.  When done, he walked towards our driveway but turned to go up to the golf course...may be for some exercise, lol.

These are examples of why I never walked through the trail going through one area of the resort.  Oh yes, then we learned there was a bear den close by the front of our house.....er, former house !

Thankfully not my home, but someone took that photo from inside the house. Bear can easily open those lever door latches. They can open many types of car doors as well. Rule one in the mountains, keep your doors locked!

That is unreal, great photo too. That homeowner was very brave to take that pic.

Funny but we are having a bear problem here.   This isn't a rural area, we are the suburbs but there are reports of bears breaking into homes, showing up at cookouts and outdoor parties, swimming in backyard pools.   They are going after food and they know that where there's humans, there will be food.  One family reported a hear broke into their refrigerator in the garage and drank every single can of soda and beer.
