@hennypenny@shoekitty Yes it was a commuter nightmare for thousands.  Henny Penney, the alternate route through Santa Barbara is always mentioned as an option by the local news so folks will head your way.  Shoekitty, that's a lot of time to just go a few miles.  Sometimes, daily traffic takes that long.

The forecasted El Nino may actually take place.  As you posted, we've had drought, dried up and dead vegetation, so now the soil will flow in many places.  Here, the local news is sending out the get prepared warnings - sandbags, food storage, light sources in case of loss of electricity and so on.  Of course most will ignore unless something does happen and then they will cry out for help.

Now, our news is reporting that sea snakes are coming on shore in our beaches and this is an odd occurrence - maybe a sign of the storms to come

What are sea snakes like?  Never heard of them before.  Are they ever seen by people swimming in the water normally.

I'm not scared of snakes, really, but these seem freaky!

It seems like people on TV (Al Roker, et al) acted like this rain came out of no where.  How can that be?  It wasn't seen on the radar at all until it started falling?

The potential for rain was certainly known in advance. But there's rain and then there's rain. Flash floods and just how heavy rainfall might or might not be, and the possible consequences, can't be predicted in advance.

I think they said they are being carried up from the South Pacific.  Dangerous yellow bellied something snake.

I heard it late last night while I was falling asleep, washing up on the shore in So Cal.  People are being warned to stay away from them.

That's the one!  Warnings have been issued not to go up to them.  They are venomous.  Wonder who will collect them all or if they will just slither back into the ocean.

Yes, they are in the water with you and many divers know how to avoid them.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and they should be really good at predicting rain up here but they are not!  They are wrong most of the time.

I do look at our local radar all the time just to see what to expect or to see if my lawn is getting rain at our other place.

We usually get a good heads up what to expect as far as bad weather (N'oreasters and hurricanes).  And it gives us PLENTY of time to prepare or evacuate.  I've never evacuated, just scooted out of town to visit family.  Ha!

Re: Any California drivers affected by the Mudslides?

My brother and his family drove over the Grapevine just a couple of hours before the mud slide hit, they were headed to Disneyland. We have driven it many many times and have never had any issues.

Friends of ours were driving on the pass a couple of weeks ago, a coyote ran out in front of them he hit another car trying to avoid hitting the coyote they came really close to going over the embankment. They had their three small children in the car Thank God all were ok. Their two week old car got extensive damage, you can replace your car not your family so they are very thankful.

More rain and flooding coming so I told my brother to take hwy 101 the scenic route back home.

Noel 7 we've had rain here in the valley on and off today.
