I get like that when I have to make a phone call.

Those things do not bother me. Maybe it's because I like my doctor and dentist team so much I look forward to going. I had a doctor tell me this many years ago before I was going to see a specialist, and I took it to heart - Don't worry until there is something to worry about! I know some cannot follow that, especially if they have dealt with health issues in the past.
Now, certain procedures like MRI or anything where drugs are involved then yes. But no sweating or any of that, just nervousness.

@MoJoV wrote:@alliswell I really admire your learning to control your fear. I would love to know your technique. Care to share it?
@MoJoV There's not really a "technique." I know within myself when I am starting to feel anxious, because I have a tendency to try to over-prepare, and I have to remind myself that some things are out of my control. It take practice, and I have to remember not to get swept away with the anxiety, because it's basically fear. When I kind of observe my thoughts, I find that when I make the conscious effort to remember to be thankful, to think thankful thoughts, and when I start thinking about whomever and whatever it is that I am thankful for in my life, just replacing anxious thoughts for thoughts of things that I am taking for granted whether it's my vision, or breathing, or my pets or people, it's like, you forget about being fearful or anxious. It took me a while to consciously remember to do this but now, I really feel a million-percent better.

I've been dealing with anxiety all of my life. When the pandemic first came to light, I found a podcast that has proven to be extremely helpful. The host, Gina Ryan, did an episode about anticipatory anxiety quite recently. I'm not sure whether or not this link will allow you to listen to it, but I would encourage you to seek out her podcasts. She is excellent.

I hate going to the dentist; just don't like dental activity in my mouth, but don't get upset enough to raise my BP.
I've been awake for actual surgical procedures with a normal BP.

@SilleeMee I'm guessing you will do well. They have come such a long way with dental care. It's amazing what they can do and from my experiences, they really do a great job these days of keeping you comfortable. I wish you well.

I've always suffered from anticipatory anxiety. For me, it is usually worse than the actual event. I'm not a procrastinator for that reason.

I always have anxiety before going to the dentist, especially when work has to be done. I had a horrible experience as a kid.

YEEEESSSS! Me, too!!! I thought I was the only one! I keep telling myself to stop it, but I can't seem to. Any time I have anything going on any more, the day before, especially the night before, I get so wound up, I have all those physical symptoms mentioned, plus I get a headache and I can't sleep! It's ridiculous!
