@SahmIam

You bring up a good story about the cost.

That’s why it makes sense to make these items expensive enough

to cause pause to buy. Soda tax...maybe a bacon tax?

If cigarettes are uber expensive, why are other

Group 1cancer-causing items on the $1 menu?

Re: Anti Smoking Commercials on TV

@sidsmom  I have no idea why other things that cause health issues can't be taxed. I know there was another thread about it and HOLY MOLY did I get attacked because I support a Soda Tax/Sugar Tax.

I think alcohol is more dangerous than other things that are killing people today in our country but...many, MANY people drink and so, it's just ignored. MADD isn't angry for the fun of it, let me tell ya that.

I think it comes down to what's "In" media-wise to attack. Who knows, really.

Smoking:

I remember people smoking at their desks...

way back in the early 80’s here in Dallas.

Once the laws kicked in, we had a high-level executive

who could be seen standing outside the building with

all the other smokers. He soon quit since he didn’t like

the stigma...hey, what ever it took, right?

@sidsmom

I remember those days where people smoked at their desks and there were cigarette burns on some of the files.  Look at all the second hand smoke we were exposed to!!!. Then when the law passed YES all the smokers were lined up outside under a ledge smoking.....Now the smokers have been replaced by smart phone users because we are no longer allowed to make personal phone calls at our desks (but thats a story for another thread)................

Ohmy goodness, I JUST saw that anti-smoking commercial that Sidsmom posted upthread.   I had not seen that one before.   The one I was originally thinking, on that vein, is another lady who just looked like death warmed over and they also showed her 'before' pic.

Re: Anti Smoking Commercials on TV

I notice a lot of women are smoking/buying cigars (not big fat stogies, but the slender ones that come in packs).  They must be cheaper and satiate better than cigarettes.

I do have to say, I see less and less people smoking.  It used to be every other person.

Smoking is/was never a good idea.  It was known years and years and years ago that it was bad for your health.  I remember seeing black and white movies and they made mention (1930's) of it's ill effects.

Never had a desire to smoke and for that matter, couldn't image snorting anything up my nose either!  Both seemed bizarre.

Re: Anti Smoking Commercials on TV

I smoked for probably a good 45 years + and quit 7 years ago when I needed surgery.  Should have done it a lot sooner as I have emphasyma. If you're still doing it, think about it. It's not gonna end well.

On LivePD, they said it’s common for people to take a slender cigar

(like Cigarellos), split them open & refill with weed.  Makes it easier

to smoke out in the open (of course, until close enough to smell).

I guess it makes sense, but the smell of weed is profoundly strong so I'd bet (without any experience on this cigar-loading thing) that somebody with a nose for scents would smell it from 20 paces.  Smiley Very Happy
