This thread reminds me of an experience in my third-grade classroom. The teacher planned a unit exploring the beauty and history surrounding The Grand Canyon. When we returned from summer vacation, our classroom was decorated around a donkey theme. Each student received a folder with a picture of a donkey being led into the canyon by a cutout of a human guide on front. The guide wore a nametag indicating the student's name. The teacher's efforts made the experience educational and fun.

I love doing things like that. One of my students' favorite units is the Christmas Around the World one where we "travel" to Sweden, Germany, Mexico, India, Israel, etc. We make different crafts from each culture's holiday celebrations and they put it in their "suitcase" as we go. They love it.

I can't believe that Summer will soon be over and kids are actually getting ready to go back to school and I can't imagine how fast it all must have gone especially for you, as a teacher!

What grade do you teach?
