Another TV Question...Do You Still Need That Little Cable Box?

OK...I've been studying up on tv's since I need a new one. We have one digital set that is about 3 years old, but the cable company hooked it up to one of those little cable boxes. Do you still need that if you buy a digital tv, or does it just depend on your cable company? We have Charter.

Also, are all tv's HD these days? Thank you!
