Maryland is a beautiful state.  I love it here.  There is so much to do and see here.  But every place is not for every one.

Annapolis is a wonderful, beautiful, historic town.  On FB the page Visit Annapolis is a good place to start.  You can Google to find realtors, I would suggest you choose one from a larger company, who specializes in relocations.  But honestly with all the military bases and federal jobs in the region, all realtors are used to relocations.

First choose the area you want to live in; personally I like the townhomes that are walking distance to Annapolis Harbor Center - good shopping and restaurants.  I think those are called Admirals Square.

Ellicott City has flooded twice - devastating both times, but it's quite a drive from Annapolis, in another county.  I am not sure if Annapolis itself has experienced floods like that.

Good luck!!

Using 100 and 97, Ellicott City is about 45 minutes from Annapolis. Considering the average commute is almost 2 hours each way to work, 45 minutes is a breeze.

Historic Annapolis did flood (and badly) during Hurricane Isobel; so much of it was under water : (  The Capital is on top of a hill with all the roads (and stores) around it going down towards the water/docks; it was not hit by the flooding due to its elevation. The Naval Academy already had a sea-wall in place but it did nothing; they have since built bigger and higher ones). Sea surge is going to flood anyplace that feeds into it and Annapolis is no exception. In fact, any time there are high winds/hurricane warnings, the area empties out. My in-laws sail and the docks there are not considered a safe harbor during a hurricane, btw.

We moved to MD after Hurricane Isabel - about 5 years after.  Wasn't aware of that damage in AA, so thanks @SahmIam.  I am too familiar with the long commutes and traffic lol.

Good luck in your search @I am still oxox!

@saltysailsI so agree.  I grew up in Maryland and still live here only because my mom is still alive.   I surely don’t plan on making Maryland my final stage in life.   People are rude, and the drivers are rude and aggressive.   Can’t stand the dc area.  Looking forward to selling my house and moving to a very rural township in PAor upstate ny.

I totally agree!  I have lived in Maryland all of my life and I hate it....for many of the reasons mentioned, as well as high taxes and high crime.  But, my husband's job is in the DC area.  And, my daughter and her family are here.

Given the opportunity, we would move the whole family out of here....I think we'll need some help from Mega Millions, lol.

@OnlyShopsOnline  I totally agree.  I grew up in Montgomery County in Silver Sprung and you couldn’t pay me enough to move back in that county.  We’re in the mountains in western Maryland, and

‘I love it.  I do work in Rockville and that’s frightening in itself.  Thank goodness it’s only 4 days a week.  I could fully retire if I truly had to, but I won’t do that until we finally make our final move out of here.

beautiful city to visit. Have only been there a couple of times. Live just down road (about 2 hours) from Annapolis.

very expensive to live, cost of living is very high. Parking is at a premium. Traffic is a nightmare especially on weekends.

I know the city itself is congested and very hard to park when on a shopping trip.

@Shelbelle

I'm in Southern Maryland, Charles County.

While we are not completely rural, there is still lots of farming in the area and a large settlement of Amish.

I'm not native to the state, but I do love my little area.  It's hard for me to understand those that hate it, but they are in the more populated areas, so I guess that might be the reason.

I commuted into DC for almost 38 years and happy to be able to stay home now and enjoy my little town!

I want to live in an area with some live, I am not a girl who wants to live in the sticks, we are relocating from Westchester County NY, for a quieter life. Ultimately we are looking for a resort community, we things around it. We would like a club house with social activities, a pool hopefully both indoor and out door.

We considered Bethany Beach De and Sea Colony but is just too busy during the Summer, we would make where ever we live our main residence and go further South in the Winter

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

@I am still oxox    Contact a realtor in that area and also look online at their City website for information.  It is a beautiful area.  I visited the Naval Academy and walked the grounds over 10 years ago.  Good luck to you and your move.  Cat Very Happy
