"CHICAGO -- Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors are working with the Red Cross to provide clean, safe drinking water to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

In a statement, Anheuser-Busch said that it is in the process of donating 150,000 cans of drinking water to help communities in Louisiana and Texas.

One truckload containing around 50,000 cans has already been delivered to the Red Cross in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and two more truckloads - around 100,000 cans - are expected to arrive by Wednesday in Arlington, Texas.

"Miller Coors is donating 50,000 cans of water to help communities in Texas and Louisiana hit by Hurricane Harvey.

"Miller Coors is shipping 50,000 cans of drinking water from its Shenandoah, Virginia, brewery to its Texas brewery to be distributed by trucks under the direction of the Red Cross.

"Anheuser-Busch said it periodically pauses beer production throughout the year at its Cartersville, Georgia, brewery to produce emergency canned drinking water ready to help when disasters hit.

"Chicago-based MillerCoors launched its water program this summer, providing the first cans of water to flood victims in Southwestern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois in July."

I recall either beer or soda canning operations canning water during previous disasters.  I imagine it's a daily simple conversion to switch over.

There's a large Anheuser Busch Brewery in Houston.

Interesting -  not interesting that they're donating, that's all good.  But I never realized they actually stop production of saleable items  to prep for disaster times.  That's above and beyond anything I'd imagined.

I do remember driving along a Florida highway in 2004 maybe two weeks after Charley devastated Punta Gorda.  The water for distribution was stacked higher than my car and the rows were about 2 car lengths long.  Again, undoubtedly, a donated supply.  And so necessary.

Anheuser-Busch has been doing this for a long time.  We have a plant in central NY.   When my husband became disabled we got him a home base CB.   He talked to the regular out of state truck drivers who traveled back and forth to the brewery.  They would tell him stories of delivering for those needs.  The drivers, although strangers, became friends and his touch with the outside while I worked.   

Our local gas and electric has traveled to help out where ever and whenever needed.  A cousin spent a month in Florida working on replacing the lines so I know they go that far.  I have not heard if crews have departed this time.  If needed they will go.

Reservist from here have been called to assist in the past also.  That was normal for my son.  They left work and went where needed.  

Wegmans grocery stores also took truck loads of water to Florida as well as Martin's Potato bread took truckloads of bread products.  Many companies donated to Florida.  I am sure they will again.

We all should do what we can in any small way.  Please contact your local Red Cross and donate to the best of your ability.   Any amount helps and is appreciated.

@Gram W, for some of that help the companies will have to wait until the water recedes and they see the true state of the roads - which, sadly, could take awhile. I would hope that govt planes and helicopters could fly in some donated goods, but who knows. To me, something like this is when "protocol" should go out the window and "rules" be broken  in order to get help where it's needed ASAP regardless of jurisdiction.

Kudos to the beer companies!

It's true they do this for all major disasters.

Clean drinking water is crucial.

Next, the Tide machines will come in to wash clothing.

Miller/Coors is also shipping from Colorado.  Those folks are going to need the water for weeks to come.  Love seeing these companies helping whenever a disaster strikes.
