Any advice for a newbie? I'm searching through Ancestry d o t you-know-what and finding it's not that easy to find my paternal grandparents. Found my maternal gp's by searching my grandmother's name because her first name was uncommon. Couldn't find them by searching my grandfather's name, unless I wanted to go through over 9000 names. And couldn't find it by my mom's name because they didn't spell her first name correctly! Argh.
I am finding spelling errors that are ridiculous. The first names are spelled incorrectly in the search so it's very difficult to find the families even though the names may be spelled correctly on the census form. Sheesh. Grrr.. ( I can certainly understand mistakes in some last names but is it so difficult to figure out the first name Patrick or Michael or Frances??? In one family I stumbled upon, they had all but one first name incorrect.) If you didn't know THEIR incorrect form of your relative's name, and you type the correct form, you'll be searching perhaps thousands of names before you stumble upon the right family.
Or am I doing something wrong??
I have a trial membership for another 2 months. Questioning whether it's worth paying once the trial time is done.
