Just got an email that Ancestry is increasing their membership by $20 per 6 months.
While I enjoy doing genealogy research, I don't do it enough to justify the yearly cost. I thought about canceling every billing cycle and I think this time, I will pull the plug.
I am just getting burned out by how much everything costs so much more. I don't think prices will ever go back to where they were. I remember the 80s when mortgage rates went crazy and then credit card interest went to 21%. Mortgage rates came down, but those credit card rates just never did...
Guess I'm just cranky after getting back from the grocery!

Hard to find anything not going up in price (or "shrinkflation" downsizing sizes but not lowering prices).

If you don't pay the monthly fees, do you lose all of your data and information?

Credit card rates are dependent upon your overall credit and is not a one sized fits all.

@Dragonflyveb I also feel Ancestry is getting pricey. I have been working on my dad's family tree for a couple years now. I just pay for 2 months every winter when I have time to really work on it. I always felt that they were expensive, but enjoyed the information I would find.

from www.genealogyexplained (dot) com:
Jan 28, 2022 Local Family History Centers (FHCs) are the most common way to access Ancestry for free. You can access a list of global FHCs by visiting this webpage www.familysearch (dot) org/fhcenters/locations/.

@Dragonflyveb I quit Ancestry and my Newspapers membership about 4 months ago. It was automatically coming off my cc and I wasn’t using it anymore.
When I quit I got an email saying they would keep my family tree as it was and hoped to see me back.
I might join for a few months during wintertime. I really don’t work on it except when it’s too cold to enjoy being outside.
