The opening 5,000 words of my entry in this year's ABNA (Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award) are now available for download for anyone with a Kindle. It'll be disappearing soon though as I missed the cut to the final three. If you're interested it's called "The Campaign" and it's #23 on the general literature list. You can find it by going to amazon.com/abna. At the top left is "Semifinalists by category," if you click on "General Literature" you will find my excerpt at #23. You can read one of the Vine review summaries, the Publishers' Weekly review of the full novel, and also the reviews of the excerpt from my fellow entrants in the contest.
The contest starts out with 5,000 general fiction entries that then get winnowed down to the final three. I made it through the semifinalist round to the top 50, but since the calls went out to the top 3 yesterday and I didn't get the call that means my excerpt will be disappearing on/about May 22nd when just the three finalists will still be available. It's been a fun ride and I may be self-publishing the novel later this year, but if you want a hint of what it's like, now's your chance. Feel free to download some of the other entries too. There are some really good writers participating this year who have created some exceptional work.
