Re: An Instacart question

[ Edited ]

@Snoopp   They do, I know for a fact   At least at costco..  for instance , their famous roast chicken is 6.99 instacart.  It is 4.99 at Costco.  It seems they tack on a dollar or two.  But i

I don't want to go in to Costco myself.    The can get stuff to me in a hour sometimes.  It is convenience.

I order at 10:00 AM (Wegmans' deli opens up at 10) and I've always gotten my order by 12.00 noon the latest. The Wegmans' store is far from me, so it takes a little longer.  If I order from Giants which much closer, I get it within the hour.  They arrive and put food on porch or where you want them to leave it.  They wear masks and gloves. You get a notification and while they are driving to your house, a live map on you computer or phone.  As soon as they come to your street, they notify you they are there. They were around before the pandemic.  But I was always a little hesitant to try them.  I was forced to by then, because I lost Amazon Fresh when a million other people discovered them.  I couldn't find a slot to have them deliver.  Amazon Fresh is still packed...So I turned to Instacart.

I read on Buzzfeed that Instacart users personal data is being sold on the dark web for $2 per customer. They get the name, address and credit card information. I would check this out if it were me.

@elated When Kim Komando stated that the dark web has 100's of thousands of customer names and other information on the dark web from Instacart......I believe her.

I didnt know abut membership if it was a good deal.  I use instacart at least 2 times a week. I use costco and raleys, and I love it.  I have had such stellar shoppers.  Sometimes the same one  i love the work it gives many as well.  I think I may use it for Costco even when things settle down.  I hae had a totally positive experience  maybe i need membership

@shoekitty, if you are using it often, yes, I would definitely recommend signing up. I choose the monthly, but many prefer the yearly.

In my locale, Amazon Fresh hasn't been a problem for some time now. When I order, I can get next-day delivery every time. So I use it and Instacart. The former almost always has better prices, but some items are only on Instacart.

For some reason, the market that I shop on Instacart seems to have the same prices on their own site. But I have heard that often Instacart is higher.

@Spurt  I don't mind the membership fee but every single thing I bought had an upcharge on it, some were significant. I didn't realize this when I started using it.

I found an alternative for now where I pay the store price for my food and do a pickup.  I'm glad instacart is available for those who need it, I just wish they would stop tacking on extra fees on the food.

@Snoopp

What I was reading the prices depend on the contract between the grocery store & Instacart....We have one main grocery store chain here, HEB, and their contract with Instacart is a little bit weird---HEB bases prices for their stores based on location and the competition....If a competitor and the main ones are Walmart or Super Target.  If they are nearby, HEB lowers their prices, if there's no competition HEB charges higher prices.... So what HEB did was average out the prices between all their stores and that's what Instacart charges in our city....some are slightly higher as you said, but some prices are the same for the store I normally shop in....one of the higher priced HEB stores.  Now I know Instacart also has a deal with certain brands and they set their own prices for those too...

I think if it falls below $35 because items are not available it is certainly not your fault.  I used Instcart for the 1st time yesterday with Mariano's food mart.  The driver actually does your shopping and he did substitute a few items one of which I was not pleased with so I sent an email and I was refunded that amount.  At first they said the refund would be a credit for next time in my account but I chose to receive a refund to my original charge account.

I've never had a problem with Instacart, but from neighbors their CS is great.  They got refunded right away.

Once my order was below the $35.00 because they were out of some things and I requested a refund.  I didn't get charged because it was below.  If the items aren't there and you request a refund, you won't be penalized at all.

What is so bad about them?     They have wonderful service in my area and they have very polite and courteous shoppers who really try to please you.  I have had nothing but good experiences with them.

I had a terrible experience with Instacart.  A lot of it depends on which shopper you get, and I got someone who was nice, but not very good.  I could write a book about how stressful she made the experience.

But the worst part was that someone got into my account, and Instacart completely deserted me.  They had sent an email letting me know that an additional address had been added to my account, and I should let them know asap if I hadn't added it.  I hadn't, so I reached out right away, and there was no way to communicate with anyone.  I kept getting re-routed to a chat, which kept getting disconnected.  Eventually I deleted my credit card info, and swore I would never use them again.

Even if my experience with the shopping part had been fine, I still wouldn't have used them again.   I refuse to do business with a company that is so badly lacking in CS.
