Re: An Experience Today That Gave Me a Scare

Thank you for sharing your story @Its Me LuLuBelle2.  I hope it's one that I can keep in mind, should I ever find myself in that position.  To be honest with you, I'd have been just as frightened to approach the biker.  When I was a teenager (late 60's/early 70's), there were always H*ll's Angels on the boardwalk and we steered clear of them!  I have to remember that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Glad to know that it turned out well for you.

@Its Me LuLuBelle2  It's so good to read of your happy ending. I can imagine how rattled you must have felt, which makes your clever handling of the situation all the more remarkable.

Thank you for sharing this incident.  You've given what could be a life saving tip, every bit as important as the child asking a stranger for the secret word.

@Kachina624, yes, when I got home I called the store manager. Turns out this guy is no stranger to them. They are working with the police, but he hasn't broken any laws.

I would think he could be charged with harrassment - I looked up the legal definition:

"Harassment is governed by state laws, which vary by state, but is generally defined as a course of conduct which annoys, threatens, intimidates, alarms, or puts a person in fear of their safety."

The local popo could "relocate" him if they chose --- I wouldn't go there again until he was gone......if you are patronizing a business, the least you can expect is a peaceful exit.

@YorkieonmyPillow......glad you posted this.  Was thinking the same thing,  Maybe she should let the store manager know this.  They can and should do something about it to be sure their customers feel safe when shopping there and then going to their car.

That was such smart quick thinking!  I don't think I would ever have thought to do that.  I'll remember your experience.

Yes.

I agree the outcome was favorable but exposing yourself to a

total stranger, who...by the way...could’ve been connected to

the stalker leading to something like an abduction attempt,

is not a wise decision.  Just because someone drives

a ( something ) doesn’t vet them of any nefarious activity.

I would’ve turned around & walked back to the store.

If anything, walking towards the store would’ve allowed

better security camera ID...and I would’ve alerted the

store manager.

I'm kind of leaning toward what sidsmom said.  Here in Michigan you won't find many motorcycles this time of year.  Rather than approach another "stranger" in a parking lot, I would have turned around and gone back into the store and asked for an escort to my car.

It’s easy to say what you would do when you’re sitting in safety and have time to think about the rationale of your decisions.  Right or wrong, had I been in this situation, I think my instinct would be to keep walking away from the man, not turning around and thereby getting closer to him, or him to me.

@Its Me LuLuBelle2    I always carry pepper spray with me... on walks... or walking to my car in a parking lot.... if that biker had not been there.... it would have been nice that you had something to spray into his eyes.
